Psalms 35:22

22 This Thou hast seen, O LORD; keep not silence; O Lord, be not far from me.

Psalms 35:22 Meaning and Commentary

Psalms 35:22

[This] thou hast seen, O Lord
The insults and derisions of these men, and the injuries they did to him, whom they hated. God is omniscient, and sees all things, all the evil wicked men do to him; and he will requite them in his own time; see ( Psalms 10:14 ) ;

keep not silence;
meaning at his prayers; that he would not be as one deaf and dumb, turning his ears from his cries, and giving no answer to his requests; see ( Psalms 28:1 ) ( 22:2 ) ;

O Lord, be not far from me;
meaning not as to his general presence, in which sense he is not far from any, ( Acts 17:07 ) ; but with respect to his gracious presence and appearance to him for help and deliverance; see ( Psalms 22:1 ) .

Psalms 35:22 In-Context

20 For they speak not peace, but they devise deceitful matters against them that are quiet in the land.
21 Yea, they opened their mouths wide against me and said, "Aha, aha! Our eyes have seen it."
22 This Thou hast seen, O LORD; keep not silence; O Lord, be not far from me.
23 Stir up Thyself, and awake to my judgment, even unto my cause, my God and my Lord.
24 Judge me, O LORD my God, according to Thy righteousness; and let them not rejoice over me.
