When human beings began to increase in number on the earth1 and daughters were born to them,
the sons of God2 saw that these daughters3 were beautiful,4 and they married5 any of them they chose.
Then the LORD said, "My Spirit6 will not contend witha human beings forever,7 for they are mortalb;8 their days will be a hundred and twenty years."
The Nephilim9 were on the earth in those days--and also afterward--when the sons of God went to the daughters of the human beings10 and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, men of renown.115
The LORD saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth,12 and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time.136
The LORD regretted14 that he had made human beings on the earth, and his heart was deeply troubled.
So the LORD said, "I will wipe from the face of the earth15 the human race I have created--and with them the animals, the birds and the creatures that move along the ground--for I regret that I have made them.16"
But Noah17 found favor in the eyes of the LORD.18
