Joy of the Redeemed

1 The desert1 and the parched land will be glad; the wilderness will rejoice and blossom.2 Like the crocus,3 2 it will burst into bloom; it will rejoice greatly and shout for joy.4 The glory of Lebanon5 will be given to it, the splendor of Carmel6 and Sharon;7 they will see the glory8 of the LORD, the splendor of our God.9 3 Strengthen the feeble hands, steady the knees10 that give way; 4 say11 to those with fearful hearts,12 "Be strong, do not fear;13 your God will come,14 he will come with vengeance;15 with divine retribution he will come to save16 you." 5 Then will the eyes of the blind be opened17 and the ears of the deaf18 unstopped. 6 Then will the lame19 leap like a deer,20 and the mute tongue21 shout for joy.22 Water will gush forth in the wilderness and streams23 in the desert. 7 The burning sand will become a pool, the thirsty ground24 bubbling springs.25 In the haunts where jackals26 once lay, grass and reeds27 and papyrus will grow. 8 And a highway28 will be there; it will be called the Way of Holiness;29 it will be for those who walk on that Way. The unclean30 will not journey on it; wicked fools will not go about on it. 9 No lion31 will be there, nor any ravenous beast;32 they will not be found there. But only the redeemed33 will walk there, 10 and those the LORD has rescued34 will return. They will enter Zion with singing;35 everlasting joy36 will crown their heads. Gladness37 and joy will overtake them, and sorrow and sighing will flee away.38
