The Spirit1 of the Sovereign LORD2 is on me, because the LORD has anointed3 me to proclaim good news4 to the poor.5 He has sent me to bind up6 the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom7 for the captives8 and release from darkness for the prisoners,a2
to proclaim the year of the LORD's favor9 and the day of vengeance10 of our God, to comfort11 all who mourn,123
and provide for those who grieve in Zion-- to bestow on them a crown13 of beauty instead of ashes,14 the oil15 of joy instead of mourning,16 and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called mighty oaks, a planting17 of the LORD for the display of his splendor.184
They will rebuild the ancient ruins19 and restore the places long devastated; they will renew the ruined cities that have been devastated for generations.
Strangers20 will shepherd your flocks; foreigners will work your fields and vineyards.
And you will be called priests21 of the LORD, you will be named ministers of our God. You will feed on the wealth22 of nations, and in their riches you will boast.
Instead of your shame23 you will receive a double24 portion, and instead of disgrace you will rejoice in your inheritance. And so you will inherit25 a double portion in your land, and everlasting joy26 will be yours.
"For I, the LORD, love justice;27 I hate robbery and wrongdoing. In my faithfulness I will reward my people and make an everlasting covenant28 with them.
Their descendants29 will be known among the nations and their offspring among the peoples. All who see them will acknowledge that they are a people the LORD has blessed."3010
I delight greatly in the LORD; my soul rejoices31 in my God. For he has clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of his righteousness,32 as a bridegroom adorns his head33 like a priest, and as a bride34 adorns herself with her jewels.
For as the soil makes the sprout come up and a garden35 causes seeds to grow, so the Sovereign LORD will make righteousness36 and praise spring up before all nations.
