Isaiah 48:3-13 (Today's New International Version)

View In My Bible
3 I foretold the former things1 long ago, my mouth announced2 them and I made them known; then suddenly3 I acted, and they came to pass. 4 For I knew how stubborn4 you were; the sinews of your neck5 were iron, your forehead6 was bronze. 5 Therefore I told you these things long ago; before they happened I announced7 them to you so that you could not say, 'My images brought them about;8 my wooden image and metal god ordained them.' 6 You have heard these things; look at them all. Will you not admit them? "From now on I will tell you of new things,9 of hidden things unknown to you. 7 They are created10 now, and not long ago;11 you have not heard of them before today. So you cannot say, 'Yes, I knew12 of them.' 8 You have neither heard nor understood;13 from of old your ears14 have not been open. Well do I know how treacherous15 you are; you were called a rebel16 from birth. 9 For my own name's sake17 I delay my wrath;18 for the sake of my praise I hold it back from you, so as not to destroy you completely.19 10 See, I have refined20 you, though not as silver; I have tested21 you in the furnace22 of affliction. 11 For my own sake,23 for my own sake, I do this. How can I let myself be defamed?24 I will not yield my glory to another.25

12 "Listen26 to me, Jacob, Israel, whom I have called:27 I am he;28 I am the first and I am the last.29 13 My own hand laid the foundations of the earth,30 and my right hand spread out the heavens;31 when I summon them, they all stand up together.32
