God presides in the great assembly; he gives judgment1 among the "gods":22
"How long will youa defend the unjust and show partiality3 to the wicked?b43
Defend the weak and the fatherless;5 uphold the cause of the poor6 and the oppressed.
Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked.
"The 'gods' know nothing, they understand nothing.7 They walk about in darkness;8 all the foundations9 of the earth are shaken.
"I said, 'You are "gods";10 you are all sons of the Most High.'
But you will die11 like mere mortals; you will fall like every other ruler."
Rise up,12 O God, judge13 the earth, for all the nations are your inheritance.14
