Psalm 9:1-20 (Today's New International Version)

For the director of music. To the tune of "The Death of the Son." A psalm of David."

1 I will praise you, LORD, with all my heart;¹ I will tell of all your wonderful deeds.² 2 I will be glad and rejoice³ in you; I will sing the praises⁴ of your name,⁵ O Most High. 3 My enemies turn back; they stumble and perish before you. 4 For you have upheld my right⁶ and my cause,⁷ sitting enthroned⁸ as the righteous judge.⁹ 5 You have rebuked the nations¹⁰ and destroyed the wicked; you have blotted out their name¹¹ for ever and ever. 6 Endless ruin has overtaken my enemies, you have uprooted their cities;¹² even the memory of them¹³ has perished. 7 The LORD reigns forever;¹⁴ he has established his throne¹⁵ for judgment. 8 He rules the world in righteousness¹⁶ and judges the peoples with equity.¹⁷ 9 The LORD is a refuge¹⁸ for the oppressed,¹⁹ a stronghold in times of trouble.²⁰ 10 Those who know your name²¹ trust in you, for you, LORD, have never forsaken²² those who seek you.²³ 11 Sing the praises²⁴ of the LORD, enthroned in Zion;²⁵ proclaim among the nations²⁶ what he has done.²⁷ 12 For he who avenges blood²⁸ remembers; he does not ignore the cries of the afflicted.²⁹ 13 LORD, see how my enemies³⁰ persecute me! Have mercy³¹ and lift me up from the gates of death,³² 14 that I may declare your praises³³ in the gates of Daughter Zion,³⁴ and there rejoice in your salvation.³⁵ 15 The nations have fallen into the pit they have dug;³⁶ their feet are caught in the net they have hidden.³⁷ 16 The LORD is known by his acts of justice; the wicked are ensnared by the work of their hands.^a38 17 The wicked go down to the realm of the dead,³⁹ all the nations that forget God.⁴⁰ 18 But God will never forget the needy; the hope⁴¹ of the afflicted⁴² will never perish. 19 Arise,⁴³ LORD, do not let mortals triumph;⁴⁴ let the nations be judged⁴⁵ in your presence. 20 Strike them with terror,⁴⁶ LORD; let the nations know they are only mortals.⁴⁷
