Ashkelon1 will see it and fear; Gaza will writhe in agony, and Ekron too, for her hope will wither. Gaza will lose her king and Ashkelon will be deserted.
Foreigners will occupy Ashdod, and I will cut off2 the pride of the Philistines.
I will take the blood from their mouths, the forbidden food from between their teeth. Those who are left will belong to our God3 and become leaders in Judah, and Ekron will be like the Jebusites.48
But I will defend5 my house against marauding forces.6 Never again will an oppressor overrun my people, for now I am keeping watch.7
Rejoice greatly, O Daughter of Zion!8 Shout,9 Daughter of Jerusalem! See, your kinga comes to you,10 righteous and having salvation,11 gentle and riding on a donkey,12 on a colt, the foal of a donkey.1310
I will take away the chariots from Ephraim and the war-horses from Jerusalem, and the battle bow will be broken.14 He will proclaim peace15 to the nations. His rule will extend from sea to sea and from the Riverb to the ends of the earth.c1611
As for you, because of the blood of my covenant17 with you, I will free your prisoners18 from the waterless pit.1912
Return to your fortress,20 O prisoners of hope; even now I announce that I will restore twice21 as much to you.
I will bend Judah as I bend my bow22 and fill it with Ephraim.23 I will rouse your sons, O Zion, against your sons, O Greece,24 and make you like a warrior's sword.25
Then the LORD will appear over them;26 his arrow will flash like lightning.27 The Sovereign LORD will sound the trumpet;28 he will march in the storms29 of the south,
and the LORD Almighty will shield30 them. They will destroy and overcome with slingstones.31 They will drink and roar as with wine;32 they will be full like a bowl33 used for sprinklingd the corners34 of the altar.
