Zephaniah 3:4-14 (New International Version)

View In My Bible
4 Her prophets are arrogant; they are treacherous1 men. Her priests profane the sanctuary and do violence to the law.2 5 The LORD within her is righteous;3 he does no wrong.4 Morning by morning5 he dispenses his justice, and every new day he does not fail,6 yet the unrighteous know no shame.7 6 "I have cut off nations; their strongholds are demolished. I have left their streets deserted, with no one passing through. Their cities are destroyed;8 no one will be left--no one at all. 7 I said to the city, 'Surely you will fear me and accept correction!'9 Then her dwelling would not be cut off, nor all my punishments come upon her. But they were still eager to act corruptly10 in all they did. 8 Therefore wait11 for me," declares the LORD, "for the day I will stand up to testify.a I have decided to assemble12 the nations,13 to gather the kingdoms and to pour out my wrath14 on them-- all my fierce anger.15 The whole world will be consumed16 by the fire of my jealous anger. 9 "Then will I purify the lips of the peoples, that all of them may call17 on the name of the LORD18 and serve19 him shoulder to shoulder. 10 From beyond the rivers of Cushb20 my worshipers, my scattered people, will bring me offerings.21 11 On that day you will not be put to shame22 for all the wrongs you have done to me,23 because I will remove from this city those who rejoice in their pride.24 Never again will you be haughty on my holy hill.25 12 But I will leave within you the meek26 and humble, who trust27 in the name of the LORD. 13 The remnant28 of Israel will do no wrong;29 they will speak no lies,30 nor will deceit be found in their mouths.31 They will eat and lie down32 and no one will make them afraid.33" 14 Sing, O Daughter of Zion;34 shout aloud,35 O Israel! Be glad and rejoice36 with all your heart, O Daughter of Jerusalem!
