Ephesians 4:11-32

And 1he gave the 2apostles, the prophets, the 3evangelists, the 4shepherdsa and teachers,b
5to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for 6building up 7the body of Christ,
until we all attain to 8the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, 9to mature manhood,c to the measure of the stature of 10the fullness of Christ,
so that we may no longer be children, 11tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in 12deceitful schemes.
Rather, 13speaking the truth in love, we are to 14grow up in every way into him who is 15the head, into Christ,
16from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, 17when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.

The New Life

Now this I say and 18testify in the Lord, 19that you must no longer walk as the Gentiles do, 20in the futility of their minds.
They 21are darkened in their understanding, 22alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, due to 23their hardness of heart.
They 24have become callous and 25have given themselves up to sensuality, greedy to practice every kind of impurity.
But that is not the way you 26learned Christ!--
assuming that 27you have heard about him and 28were taught in him, as the truth is in Jesus,
to 29put off 30your old self,d which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through 31deceitful desires,
and 32to be renewed in the spirit of your minds,
and to put on 33the new self, 34created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.
Therefore, having put away falsehood, let each one of you 35speak the truth with his neighbor, for 36we are members one of another.
37Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger,
and 38give no opportunity to the devil.
Let the thief no longer steal, but rather 39let him labor, 40doing honest work with his own hands, so 41that he may have something to share with anyone in need.
42Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give 43grace to those who hear.
And 44do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, 45by whom you were sealed for the day of 46redemption.
47Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice.
48Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, 49forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.
