John 14:7-17

7 ¹If you had known me, you would have ²known my Father also. ^[a] From now on you do know him and ³have seen him. ”

8 ⁴Philip said to him, “Lord, ⁵show us the Father, and it is enough for us. ”

9 Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and you still do not know me, Philip? ⁶Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?

10 Do you not believe that ⁷I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you ⁸I do not speak on my own authority, but the Father who dwells in me does his works.

11 Believe me that ⁹I am in the Father and the Father is in me, or else ¹⁰believe on account of the works themselves.

12 “Truly, truly, I say to you, ¹¹whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I ¹²am going to the Father.

13 ¹³Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that ¹⁴the Father may be glorified in the Son.

14 ¹⁵If you ask me^[b] anything in my name, I will do it.

Jesus Promises the Holy Spirit

15 ¹⁶“If you love me, you will ¹⁷keep my commandments.

16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another ¹⁸Helper, ^[c] to be with you forever,

17 even ¹⁹the Spirit of truth, ²⁰whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and ²¹will be^[d] in you.
