Psalms 58
1
Do you rulers really give fair verdicts? Do you judge Adam's descendants fairly?
2
No, you invent new crimes on earth, and your hands spread violence.
3
[Even] inside the womb wicked people are strangers [to God]. From their birth liars go astray.
4
They have poisonous venom like snakes. They are like a deaf cobra that shuts its ears
5
so that it cannot hear the voice of a snake charmer or of anyone trained to cast spells.
6
O God, knock the teeth out of their mouths. Break the young lions' teeth, O LORD.
7
Let them disappear like water that drains away. When they aim their bows, let their arrows miss the target.
8
Let them become like a snail that leaves behind a slimy trail or like a stillborn child who never sees the sun.
9
Let [God] sweep them away faster than a cooking pot is heated by burning twigs.
10
Righteous people will rejoice when they see [God] take revenge. They will wash their feet in the blood of wicked people.
11
Then people will say, "Righteous people certainly have a reward. There is a God who judges on earth."

Psalms 59
1
Rescue me from my enemies, O my God. Protect me from those who attack me.
2
Rescue me from troublemakers. Save me from bloodthirsty people.
3
They lie in ambush for me right here! Fierce men attack me, O LORD, but not because of any disobedience,
4
or any sin, or any guilt on my part. They hurry to take positions against me. Wake up, and help me; see [for yourself].
5
O LORD God of Armies, God of Israel, arise to punish all the nations. Have no pity on any traitors. Selah
6
They return in the evening. They howl like dogs. They prowl the city.
7
See what pours out of their mouths-- swords from their lips! [They think,] "Who will hear us?"
8
O LORD, you laugh at them. You make fun of all the nations.
9
O my strength, I watch for you! God is my stronghold, my merciful God!
10
God will come to meet me. He will let me gloat over those who spy on me.
11
Do not kill them. Otherwise, my people may forget. Make them wander aimlessly by your power. Bring them down, O Lord, our shield,
12
[because of] the sins from their mouths and the words on their lips. Let them be trapped by their own arrogance because they speak curses and lies.
13
Destroy them in your rage. Destroy them until not one of them is left. Then they will know that God rules Jacob to the ends of the earth. Selah
14
They return in the evening. They howl like dogs. They prowl the city.
15
They wander around to find something to eat. If they are not full enough, they will stay all night.
16
But I will sing about your strength. In the morning I will joyfully sing about your mercy. You have been my stronghold and a place of safety in times of trouble.
17
O my strength, I will make music to praise you! God is my stronghold, my merciful God!

Psalms 60
1
O God, you have rejected us. You have broken down our defenses. You have been angry. Restore us!
2
You made the land quake. You split it wide open. Heal the cracks in it because it is falling apart.
3
You have made your people experience hardships. You have given us wine that makes us stagger.
4
Yet, you have raised a flag for those who fear you so that they can rally to it when attacked by bows [and arrows]. Selah
5
Save [us] with your powerful hand, and answer us so that those who are dear to you may be rescued.
6
God has promised the following through his holiness: "I will triumph! I will divide Shechem. I will measure the valley of Succoth.
7
Gilead is mine. Manasseh is mine. Ephraim is the helmet on my head. Judah is my scepter.
8
Moab is my washtub. I will throw my shoe over Edom. I will shout in triumph over Philistia."
9
Who will bring me into the fortified city? Who will lead me to Edom?
10
Isn't it you, O God, who rejected us? Isn't it you, O God, who refused to accompany our armies?
11
Give us help against the enemy because human assistance is worthless.
12
With God we will display great strength. He will trample our enemies.

Psalms 61
1
Listen to my cry for help, O God. Pay attention to my prayer.
2
From the ends of the earth, I call to you when I begin to lose heart. Lead me to the rock that is high above me.
3
You have been my refuge, a tower of strength against the enemy.
4
I would like to be a guest in your tent forever and to take refuge under the protection of your wings. Selah
5
O God, you have heard my vows. You have given me the inheritance that belongs to those who fear your name.
6
Add days upon days to the life of the king. May his years endure throughout every generation.
7
May he sit enthroned in the presence of God forever. May mercy and truth protect him.
8
Then I will make music to praise your name forever, as I keep my vows day after day.

Psalms 62
1
My soul waits calmly for God alone. My salvation comes from him.
2
He alone is my rock and my savior--my stronghold. I cannot be severely shaken.
3
How long will all of you attack a person? How long will you try to murder him, as though he were a leaning wall or a sagging fence?
4
They plan to force him out of his high position. They are happy to lie. They bless with their mouths, but in their hearts they curse. Selah
5
Wait calmly for God alone, my soul, because my hope comes from him.
6
He alone is my rock and my savior--my stronghold. I cannot be shaken.
7
My salvation and my glory depend on God. God is the rock of my strength, my refuge.
8
Trust him at all times, you people. Pour out your hearts in his presence. God is our refuge. Selah

Common people are only a whisper in the wind. Important people are only a delusion. When all of them are weighed on a scale, they amount to nothing. They are less than a whisper in the wind.
10
Do not count on extortion [to make you rich]. Do not hope to gain anything through robbery. When riches increase, do not depend on them.
11
God has spoken once. I have heard it [said] twice: "Power belongs to God.
12
Mercy belongs to you, O Lord. You reward a person based on what he has done."

Psalms 63
1
O God, you are my God. At dawn I search for you. My soul thirsts for you. My body longs for you in a dry, parched land where there is no water.
2
So I look for you in the holy place to see your power and your glory.
3
My lips will praise you because your mercy is better than life [itself].
4
So I will thank you as long as I live. I will lift up my hands [to pray] in your name.
5
You satisfy my soul with the richest foods. My mouth will sing [your] praise with joyful lips.
6
As I lie on my bed, I remember you. Through the long hours of the night, I think about you.
7
You have been my help. In the shadow of your wings, I sing joyfully.
8
My soul clings to you. Your right hand supports me.
9
But those who try to destroy my life will go into the depths of the earth.
10
They will be cut down by swords. Their dead bodies will be left as food for jackals.
11
But the king will find joy in God. Everyone who takes an oath by God will brag, but the mouths of liars will be shut.

Psalms 64
1
Hear my voice, O God, when I complain. Protect my life from a terrifying enemy.
2
Hide me from the secret plots of criminals, from the mob of troublemakers.
3
They sharpen their tongues like swords. They aim bitter words like arrows
4
to shoot at innocent people from their hiding places. They shoot at them suddenly, without any fear.
5
They encourage one another in their evil plans. They talk about setting traps and say, "Who can see them?"
6
They search for the perfect crime and say, "We have perfected a foolproof scheme!" Human nature and the human heart are a mystery!
7
But God will shoot them with an arrow. Suddenly, they will be struck dead.
8
They will trip over their own tongues. Everyone who sees them will shake his head.
9
Everyone will be afraid and conclude, "This is an act of God!" They will learn from what he has done.
10
Righteous people will find joy in the LORD and take refuge in him. Everyone whose motives are decent will be able to brag.

Psalms 65
1
You are praised with silence in Zion, O God, and vows [made] to you must be kept.
2
You are the one who hears prayers. Everyone will come to you.
3
Various sins overwhelm me. You are the one who forgives our rebellious acts.
4
Blessed is the person you choose and invite to live with you in your courtyards. We will be filled with good food from your house, from your holy temple.
5
You answer us with awe-inspiring acts [done] in righteousness, O God, our savior, the hope of all the ends of the earth and of the most distant sea,
6
the one who set the mountains in place with his strength, the one who is clothed with power,
7
the one who calms the roar of the seas, their crashing waves, and the uproar of the nations.
8
Those who live at the ends of the earth are in awe of your miraculous signs. The lands of the morning sunrise and evening sunset sing joyfully.
9
You take care of the earth, and you water it. You make it much richer than it was. (The river of God is filled with water.) You provide grain for them. Indeed, you even prepare the ground.
10
You drench plowed fields [with rain] and level their clumps of soil. You soften them with showers and bless what grows in them.
11
You crown the year with your goodness, and richness overflows wherever you are.
12
The pastures in the desert overflow [with richness]. The hills are surrounded with joy.
13
The pastures are covered with flocks. The valleys are carpeted with grain. All of them shout triumphantly. Indeed, they sing.
