He continued to seekGod in the days of Zechariah, who had understanding through the vision of God; and as long as he sought the LORD, Godprospered him.

Now he went out and warred against the Philistines, and brokedown the wall of Gath and the wall of Jabneh and the wall of Ashdod; and he builtcities in the area of Ashdod and among the Philistines.

He builttowers in the wilderness and hewedmanycisterns, for he hadmuchlivestock, both in the lowland and in the plain. He also had plowmen and vinedressers in the hillcountry and the fertilefields, for he loved the soil.

Moreover, Uzziahhad an armyready for battle, which enteredcombat by divisions according to the number of their muster, prepared by Jeiel the scribe and Maaseiah the official, under the direction of Hananiah, one of the king'sofficers.

In Jerusalem he madeengines of war invented by skillful men to be on the towers and on the corners for the purpose of shootingarrows and greatstones. Hence his famespreadafar*, for he was marvelouslyhelpeduntil* he was strong.

But when he becamestrong, his heart was so proud that he actedcorruptly, and he was unfaithful to the LORD his God, for he entered the temple of the LORD to burnincense on the altar of incense.

They opposedUzziah the king and said to him, "It is not for you, Uzziah, to burnincense to the LORD, but for the priests, the sons of Aaron who are consecrated to burnincense. Get out of the sanctuary, for you have beenunfaithful and will have nohonor from the LORDGod."

But Uzziah, with a censer in his hand for burningincense, was enraged; and while he was enraged with the priests, the leprosybroke out on his foreheadbefore the priests in the house of the LORD, beside* the altar of incense.

Azariah the chiefpriest and all the priestslooked at him, and behold, he was leprous on his forehead; and they hurried him out of there, and he himselfalsohastened to get out because the LORD had smitten him.

KingUzziah was a leper to the day of his death; and he lived in a separatehouse, being a leper, for he was cutoff from the house of the LORD. And Jotham his son was over the king'shousejudging the people of the land.

So Uzziahslept with his fathers, and they buried him with his fathers in the field of the gravewhich belonged to the kings, for they said, "He is a leper." And Jotham his sonbecameking in his place.
