Then I said, "Lord , how long ?" And He answered, "Until cities are devastated and without inhabitant, Houses are without people And the land is utterly desolate,
"The LORD has removed men far away, And the forsaken places are many in the midst of the land.

Now the Egyptians are men and not God, And their horses are flesh and not spirit; So the LORD will stretch out His hand, And he who helps will stumble And he who is helped will fall, And all of them will come to an end together.
And the Assyrian will fall by a sword not of man, And a sword not of man will devour him. So he will not escape the sword, And his young men will become forced laborers.
and have cast their gods into the fire, for they were not gods but the work of men's hands, wood and stone. So they have destroyed them.
I said, "I will not see the LORD , The LORD in the land of the living; I will look on man no more among the inhabitants of the world.
"Since you are precious in My sight, Since you are honored and I love you, I will give other men in your place and other peoples in exchange for your life.
Behold, all his companions will be put to shame, for the craftsmen themselves are mere men. Let them all assemble themselves, let them stand up, let them tremble, let them together be put to shame.
Another shapes wood, he extends a measuring line; he outlines it with red chalk. He works it with planes and outlines it with a compass, and makes it like the form of a man, like the beauty of man, so that it may sit in a house.
Then it becomes something for a man to burn, so he takes one of them and warms himself; he also makes a fire to bake bread. He also makes a god and worships it; he makes it a graven image and falls down before it.
"It is I who made the earth, and created man upon it. I stretched out the heavens with My hands And I ordained all their host.
"Your nakedness will be uncovered, Your shame also will be exposed; I will take vengeance and will not spare a man."
"I, even I, am He who comforts you. Who are you that you are afraid of man who dies And of the son of man who is made like grass,
Just as many were astonished at you, My people, So His appearance was marred more than any man And His form more than the sons of men.
"How blessed is the man who does this, And the son of man who takes hold of it; Who keeps from profaning the sabbath, And keeps his hand from doing any evil."
"Is it a fast like this which I choose, a day for a man to humble himself? Is it for bowing one's head like a reed And for spreading out sackcloth and ashes as a bed? Will you call this a fast, even an acceptable day to the LORD ?
