Psalms 5

RHE

NIV

1 <Unto the end, for her that obtaineth the inheritance. A psalm for David.> (5-2) Give ear, O Lord, to my words, understand my cry.
1 Listen to my words, LORD, consider my lament.
2 (5-3) Hearken to the voice of my prayer, O my King and my God.
2 Hear my cry for help, my King and my God, for to you I pray.
3 (5-4) For to thee will I pray: O Lord, in the morning thou shalt hear my voice.
3 In the morning, LORD, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly.
4 (5-5) In the morning I will stand before thee, and I will see: because thou art not a God that willest iniquity.
4 For you are not a God who is pleased with wickedness; with you, evil people are not welcome.
5 (5-6) Neither shall the wicked dwell near thee: nor shall the unjust abide before thy eyes.
5 The arrogant cannot stand in your presence. You hate all who do wrong;
6 (5-7) Thou hatest all the workers of iniquity: thou wilt destroy all that speak a lie. The bloody and the deceitful man the Lord will abhor.
6 you destroy those who tell lies. The bloodthirsty and deceitful you, LORD, detest.
7 (5-8) But as for me in the multitude of thy mercy, I will come into thy house; I will worship towards thy holy temple, in thy fear.
7 But I, by your great love, can come into your house; in reverence I bow down toward your holy temple.
8 (5-9) Conduct me, O Lord, in thy justice: because of my enemies, direct my way in thy sight.
8 Lead me, LORD, in your righteousness because of my enemies— make your way straight before me.
9 (5-10) For there is no truth in their mouth: their heart is vain.
9 Not a word from their mouth can be trusted; their heart is filled with malice. Their throat is an open grave; with their tongues they tell lies.
10 (5-11) Their throat is an open sepulchre: they dealt deceitfully with their tongues: judge them, O God. Let them fall from their devices: according to the multitude of their wickednesses cast them out: for they have provoked thee, O Lord.
10 Declare them guilty, O God! Let their intrigues be their downfall. Banish them for their many sins, for they have rebelled against you.
11 (5-12) But let all them be glad that hope in thee: they shall rejoice for ever, and thou shalt dwell in them. And all they that love thy name shall glory in thee.
11 But let all who take refuge in you be glad; let them ever sing for joy. Spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may rejoice in you.
12 (5-13) For thou wilt bless the just. O Lord, thou hast crowned us, as with a shield of thy good will.
12 Surely, LORD, you bless the righteous; you surround them with your favor as with a shield.
