1 La fe en el Hijo de Dios<br />Todo el que cree que Jesús es el Cristo<br /> ha llegado a ser un hijo de Dios. Y todo el que ama al Padre ama también a los hijos nacidos de él.

2 Sabemos que amamos a los hijos de Dios si amamos a Dios y obedecemos sus mandamientos.

3 Amar a Dios significa obedecer sus mandamientos, y sus mandamientos no son una carga difícil de llevar.

4 Pues todo hijo de Dios vence a este mundo de maldad, y logramos esa victoria por medio de nuestra fe.

5 ¿Y quién puede ganar esta batalla contra el mundo? Únicamente los que creen que Jesús es el Hijo de Dios.

6 Y Jesucristo fue revelado como el Hijo de Dios por medio de su bautismo en agua y por derramar su sangre en la cruz,<br /> es decir, no mediante agua solamente sino mediante agua y sangre. Y el Espíritu, quien es la verdad, lo confirma con su testimonio.

7 Por lo tanto, son tres los testigos

8 —el Espíritu, el agua y la sangre— y los tres están de acuerdo.

9 Ya que creemos el testimonio humano, sin duda alguna podemos creer el testimonio de más valor que proviene de Dios; y Dios ha dado testimonio acerca de su Hijo.

10 Todo el que cree en el Hijo de Dios sabe en su corazón que este testimonio es verdadero. Los que no lo creen, en realidad llaman a Dios mentiroso porque no creen el testimonio que él ha dado acerca de su Hijo.

11 Y este es el testimonio que Dios ha dado: él nos dio vida eterna, y esa vida está en su Hijo.

12 El que tiene al Hijo tiene la vida; el que no tiene al Hijo de Dios no tiene la vida.

13 Conclusión<br />Les he escrito estas cosas a ustedes, que creen en el nombre del Hijo de Dios, para que sepan que tienen vida eterna.

14 Y estamos seguros de que él nos oye cada vez que le pedimos algo que le agrada;

15 y como sabemos que él nos oye cuando le hacemos nuestras peticiones, también sabemos que nos dará lo que le pedimos.

16 Si alguno de ustedes ve que un hermano en Cristo<br /> comete un pecado que no lleva a la muerte, debe orar por él, y Dios le dará vida a ese hermano. Pero hay un pecado que lleva a la muerte, y no digo que se ore por quienes lo cometen.

17 Todas las malas acciones son pecado, pero no todos los pecados llevan a la muerte.

18 Sabemos que los hijos de Dios no se caracterizan por practicar el pecado, porque el Hijo de Dios los mantiene protegidos, y el maligno no puede tocarlos.

19 Sabemos que somos hijos de Dios y que el mundo que nos rodea está controlado por el maligno.

20 Y sabemos que el Hijo de Dios ha venido y nos ha dado entendimiento, para que podamos conocer al Dios verdadero.<br /> Y ahora vivimos en comunión con el Dios verdadero porque vivimos en comunión con su Hijo, Jesucristo. Él es el único Dios verdadero y él es la vida eterna.

1 Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the father loves his child as well.

2 This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and carrying out his commands.

3 In fact, this is love for God: to keep his commands. And his commands are not burdensome,

4 for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith.

5 Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.

6 This is the one who came by water and blood—Jesus Christ. He did not come by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth.

7 For there are three that testify:

8 the Spirit, the water and the blood; and the three are in agreement.

9 We accept human testimony, but God’s testimony is greater because it is the testimony of God, which he has given about his Son.

10 Whoever believes in the Son of God accepts this testimony. Whoever does not believe God has made him out to be a liar, because they have not believed the testimony God has given about his Son.

11 And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.

12 Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.

13 I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.

14 This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.

15 And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.

16 If you see any brother or sister commit a sin that does not lead to death, you should pray and God will give them life. I refer to those whose sin does not lead to death. There is a sin that leads to death. I am not saying that you should pray about that.

17 All wrongdoing is sin, and there is sin that does not lead to death.

18 We know that anyone born of God does not continue to sin; the One who was born of God keeps them safe, and the evil one cannot harm them.

19 We know that we are children of God, and that the whole world is under the control of the evil one.

20 We know also that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true. And we are in him who is true by being in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.

21 Dear children, keep yourselves from idols.
