1 Kings 8:8-18

KJV 8 And they drew out the staves, that the ends of the staves were seen out in the holy place before the oracle, and they were not seen without: and there they are unto this day. NIV 8 These poles were so long that their ends could be seen from the Holy Place in front of the inner sanctuary, but not from outside the Holy Place; and they are still there today. KJV 9 There was nothing in the ark save the two tables of stone, which Moses put there at Horeb, when the LORD made a covenant with the children of Israel, when they came out of the land of Egypt. NIV 9 There was nothing in the ark except the two stone tablets that Moses had placed in it at Horeb, where the LORD made a covenant with the Israelites after they came out of Egypt. KJV 10 And it came to pass, when the priests were come out of the holy place, that the cloud filled the house of the LORD, NIV 10 When the priests withdrew from the Holy Place, the cloud filled the temple of the LORD. KJV 11 So that the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud: for the glory of the LORD had filled the house of the LORD. NIV 11 And the priests could not perform their service because of the cloud, for the glory of the LORD filled his temple. KJV 12 Then spake Solomon, The LORD said that he would dwell in the thick darkness. NIV 12 Then Solomon said, “The LORD has said that he would dwell in a dark cloud; KJV 13 I have surely built thee an house to dwell in, a settled place for thee to abide in for ever. NIV 13 I have indeed built a magnificent temple for you, a place for you to dwell forever.” KJV 14 And the king turned his face about, and blessed all the congregation of Israel: (and all the congregation of Israel stood;) NIV 14 While the whole assembly of Israel was standing there, the king turned around and blessed them. KJV 15 And he said, Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, which spake with his mouth unto David my father, and hath with his hand fulfilled it, saying, NIV 15 Then he said: “Praise be to the LORD, the God of Israel, who with his own hand has fulfilled what he promised with his own mouth to my father David. For he said, KJV 16 Since the day that I brought forth my people Israel out of Egypt, I chose no city out of all the tribes of Israel to build an house, that my name might be therein; but I chose David to be over my people Israel. NIV 16 ‘Since the day I brought my people Israel out of Egypt, I have not chosen a city in any tribe of Israel to have a temple built so that my Name might be there, but I have chosen David to rule my people Israel.’ KJV 17 And it was in the heart of David my father to build an house for the name of the LORD God of Israel. NIV 17 “My father David had it in his heart to build a temple for the Name of the LORD, the God of Israel. KJV 18 And the LORD said unto David my father, Whereas it was in thine heart to build an house unto my name, thou didst well that it was in thine heart. NIV 18 But the LORD said to my father David, ‘You did well to have it in your heart to build a temple for my Name.
