RSVA 12 Then said David, "Will the men of Kei'lah surrender me and my men into the hand of Saul?" And the LORD said, "They will surrender you." NIV 12 Again David asked, “Will the citizens of Keilah surrender me and my men to Saul?” And the LORD said, “They will.” RSVA 13 Then David and his men, who were about six hundred, arose and departed from Kei'lah, and they went wherever they could go. When Saul was told that David had escaped from Kei'lah, he gave up the expedition. NIV 13 So David and his men, about six hundred in number, left Keilah and kept moving from place to place. When Saul was told that David had escaped from Keilah, he did not go there. RSVA 14 And David remained in the strongholds in the wilderness, in the hill country of the Wilderness of Ziph. And Saul sought him every day, but God did not give him into his hand NIV 14 David stayed in the wilderness strongholds and in the hills of the Desert of Ziph. Day after day Saul searched for him, but God did not give David into his hands. RSVA 15 And David was afraid because Saul had come out to seek his life. David was in the Wilderness of Ziph at Horesh. NIV 15 While David was at Horesh in the Desert of Ziph, he learned that Saul had come out to take his life. RSVA 16 And Jonathan, Saul's son, rose, and went to David at Horesh, and strengthened his hand in God. NIV 16 And Saul’s son Jonathan went to David at Horesh and helped him find strength in God. RSVA 17 And he said to him, "Fear not; for the hand of Saul my father shall not find you; you shall be king over Israel, and I shall be next to you; Saul my father also knows this." NIV 17 “Don’t be afraid,” he said. “My father Saul will not lay a hand on you. You will be king over Israel, and I will be second to you. Even my father Saul knows this.” RSVA 18 And the two of them made a covenant before the LORD; David remained at Horesh, and Jonathan went home. NIV 18 The two of them made a covenant before the LORD. Then Jonathan went home, but David remained at Horesh. RSVA 19 Then the Ziphites went up to Saul at Gib'e-ah, saying, "Does not David hide among us in the strongholds at Horesh, on the hill of Hachi'lah, which is south of Jeshi'mon NIV 19 The Ziphites went up to Saul at Gibeah and said, “Is not David hiding among us in the strongholds at Horesh, on the hill of Hakilah, south of Jeshimon? RSVA 20 Now come down, O king, according to all your heart's desire to come down; and our part shall be to surrender him into the king's hand." NIV 20 Now, Your Majesty, come down whenever it pleases you to do so, and we will be responsible for giving him into your hands.” RSVA 21 And Saul said, "May you be blessed by the LORD; for you have had compassion on me NIV 21 Saul replied, “The LORD bless you for your concern for me. RSVA 22 Go, make yet more sure; know and see the place where his haunt is, and who has seen him there; for it is told me that he is very cunning. NIV 22 Go and get more information. Find out where David usually goes and who has seen him there. They tell me he is very crafty.
