1 Revuelta de Seba<br />Sucedió que había un alborotador allí de nombre Seba, hijo de Bicri, un hombre de la tribu de Benjamín. Seba tocó un cuerno de carnero y comenzó a repetir:<br />«¡Abajo la dinastía de David!<br />No nos interesa para nada el hijo de Isaí.<br />Vamos, hombres de Israel,<br />todos a sus casas».

Now a troublemaker named Sheba son of Bikri, a Benjamite, happened to be there. He sounded the trumpet and shouted, “We have no share in David, no part in Jesse’s son! Every man to his tent, Israel!”
2 Así que todos los hombres de Israel abandonaron a David y siguieron a Seba, hijo de Bicri. Pero los hombres de Judá se quedaron con su rey y lo escoltaron desde el río Jordán hasta Jerusalén.

So all the men of Israel deserted David to follow Sheba son of Bikri. But the men of Judah stayed by their king all the way from the Jordan to Jerusalem.
3 Cuando David llegó a su palacio en Jerusalén, tomó a las diez concubinas que había dejado para que cuidaran el palacio y las puso en reclusión. Les proveyó para sus necesidades, pero no volvió a acostarse con ninguna. De modo que cada una de ellas vivió como una viuda hasta que murió.

When David returned to his palace in Jerusalem, he took the ten concubines he had left to take care of the palace and put them in a house under guard. He provided for them but had no sexual relations with them. They were kept in confinement till the day of their death, living as widows.
4 Luego David le dijo a Amasa: «Moviliza al ejército de Judá dentro de tres días y enseguida preséntate aquí».

Then the king said to Amasa, “Summon the men of Judah to come to me within three days, and be here yourself.”
5 Así que Amasa salió a notificar a la tribu de Judá, pero le llevó más tiempo del que le fue dado.

But when Amasa went to summon Judah, he took longer than the time the king had set for him.
6 Por eso David le dijo a Abisai: «Seba, hijo de Bicri, nos va a causar más daño que Absalón. Rápido, toma a mis tropas y persíguelo antes de que llegue a alguna ciudad fortificada donde no podamos alcanzarlo».

David said to Abishai, “Now Sheba son of Bikri will do us more harm than Absalom did. Take your master’s men and pursue him, or he will find fortified cities and escape from us.”
7 Entonces Abisai y Joab,<br /> junto con la escolta del rey<br /> y todos sus poderosos guerreros salieron de Jerusalén para perseguir a Seba.

So Joab’s men and the Kerethites and Pelethites and all the mighty warriors went out under the command of Abishai. They marched out from Jerusalem to pursue Sheba son of Bikri.
8 Al llegar a la gran roca de Gabaón, Amasa les salió al encuentro. Joab llevaba puesta su túnica militar con una daga sujeta a su cinturón. Cuando dio un paso al frente para saludar a Amasa, sacó la daga de su vaina.

While they were at the great rock in Gibeon, Amasa came to meet them. Joab was wearing his military tunic, and strapped over it at his waist was a belt with a dagger in its sheath. As he stepped forward, it dropped out of its sheath.
9 «¿Cómo estás, primo mío?», dijo Joab, y con la mano derecha lo tomó por la barba como si fuera a besarlo.

Joab said to Amasa, “How are you, my brother?” Then Joab took Amasa by the beard with his right hand to kiss him.
10 Amasa no se dio cuenta de la daga que tenía en la mano izquierda, y Joab se la clavó en el estómago, de manera que sus entrañas se derramaron por el suelo. Joab no necesitó volver a apuñalarlo, y Amasa pronto murió. Joab y su hermano Abisai lo dejaron tirado allí y siguieron en busca de Seba.

Amasa was not on his guard against the dagger in Joab’s hand, and Joab plunged it into his belly, and his intestines spilled out on the ground. Without being stabbed again, Amasa died. Then Joab and his brother Abishai pursued Sheba son of Bikri.
11 Uno de los jóvenes de Joab les gritó a las tropas de Amasa: «Si están a favor de Joab y David, vengan y sigan a Joab».

One of Joab’s men stood beside Amasa and said, “Whoever favors Joab, and whoever is for David, let him follow Joab!”
12 Pero como Amasa yacía bañado en su propia sangre en medio del camino, y el hombre de Joab vio que todos se detenían para verlo, lo arrastró fuera del camino hasta el campo y le echó un manto encima.

Amasa lay wallowing in his blood in the middle of the road, and the man saw that all the troops came to a halt there. When he realized that everyone who came up to Amasa stopped, he dragged him from the road into a field and threw a garment over him.
13 Con el cuerpo de Amasa quitado de en medio, todos continuaron con Joab a capturar a Seba, hijo de Bicri.

After Amasa had been removed from the road, everyone went on with Joab to pursue Sheba son of Bikri.
14 Mientras tanto, Seba recorría todas las tribus de Israel y finalmente llegó a la ciudad de Abel-bet-maaca. Todos los miembros de su propio clan, los bicritas,<br /> se reunieron para la batalla y lo siguieron a la ciudad.

Sheba passed through all the tribes of Israel to Abel Beth Maakah and through the entire region of the Bikrites, who gathered together and followed him.

All the troops with Joab came and besieged Sheba in Abel Beth Maakah. They built a siege ramp up to the city, and it stood against the outer fortifications. While they were battering the wall to bring it down,

a wise woman called from the city, “Listen! Listen! Tell Joab to come here so I can speak to him.”
17 Cuando Joab se acercó, la mujer le preguntó:<br />—¿Es usted Joab?<br />—Sí, soy yo —le respondió.<br />Entonces ella dijo:<br />—Escuche atentamente a su sierva.<br />—Estoy atento —le dijo.

He went toward her, and she asked, “Are you Joab?” “I am,” he answered. She said, “Listen to what your servant has to say.” “I’m listening,” he said.
18 Así que ella continuó:<br />—Había un dicho que decía: “Si quieres resolver una disputa, pide consejo en la ciudad de Abel”.

She continued, “Long ago they used to say, ‘Get your answer at Abel,’ and that settled it.
19 Soy alguien que ama la paz y que es fiel en Israel, pero usted está por destruir una ciudad importante de Israel.<br /> ¿Por qué quiere devorar lo que le pertenece al Señor<br />?

We are the peaceful and faithful in Israel. You are trying to destroy a city that is a mother in Israel. Why do you want to swallow up the LORD’s inheritance?”
20 Joab contestó:<br />—¡Créame, no quiero devorar ni destruir su ciudad!

“Far be it from me!” Joab replied, “Far be it from me to swallow up or destroy!
21 Ese no es mi propósito. Lo único que quiero es capturar a un hombre llamado Seba, hijo de Bicri, de la zona montañosa de Efraín, quien se rebeló contra el rey David. Si ustedes me entregan a ese hombre, dejaré a la ciudad en paz.<br />—Muy bien —respondió la mujer—, arrojaremos su cabeza sobre la muralla.

That is not the case. A man named Sheba son of Bikri, from the hill country of Ephraim, has lifted up his hand against the king, against David. Hand over this one man, and I’ll withdraw from the city.” The woman said to Joab, “His head will be thrown to you from the wall.”
22 Enseguida la mujer se dirigió a todo el pueblo con su sabio consejo, y le cortaron la cabeza a Seba y se la arrojaron a Joab. Así que Joab tocó el cuerno de carnero, llamó a sus tropas y se retiraron del ataque. Todos volvieron a sus casas y Joab regresó a Jerusalén para encontrarse con el rey.

Then the woman went to all the people with her wise advice, and they cut off the head of Sheba son of Bikri and threw it to Joab. So he sounded the trumpet, and his men dispersed from the city, each returning to his home. And Joab went back to the king in Jerusalem.
23 Ahora bien, Joab era el comandante del ejército de Israel; Benaía, hijo de Joiada, era el capitán de la escolta del rey.

Joab was over Israel’s entire army; Benaiah son of Jehoiada was over the Kerethites and Pelethites;
