7 Entonces Eliseo fue a Damasco. Y Ben-adad, rey de Aram, estaba enfermo, y le dieron aviso, diciendo: El hombre de Dios ha venido acá.

Elisha went to Damascus, and Ben-Hadad king of Aram was ill. When the king was told, “The man of God has come all the way up here,”
8 Y el rey dijo a Hazael: Toma un presente en tu mano y ve al encuentro del hombre de Dios y consulta al SEÑOR por medio de él, diciendo: "¿Sanaré de esta enfermedad?"

he said to Hazael, “Take a gift with you and go to meet the man of God. Consult the LORD through him; ask him, ‘Will I recover from this illness?’ ”
9 Y Hazael fue a recibirle, y tomó un presente en su mano de todo lo bueno de Damasco, la carga de cuarenta camellos; y vino y se puso delante de él y dijo: Tu hijo Ben-adad, rey de Aram, me ha enviado a ti, diciendo: "¿Sanaré de esta enfermedad?"

Hazael went to meet Elisha, taking with him as a gift forty camel-loads of all the finest wares of Damascus. He went in and stood before him, and said, “Your son Ben-Hadad king of Aram has sent me to ask, ‘Will I recover from this illness?’ ”
10 Entonces Eliseo le dijo: Ve y dile: "Ciertamente sanarás"; pero el SEÑOR me ha mostrado que ciertamente morirá.

Elisha answered, “Go and say to him, ‘You will certainly recover.’ Nevertheless, the LORD has revealed to me that he will in fact die.”
11 Y puso rígido su rostro y fijó sus ojos en él hasta que se sintió avergonzado, y el hombre de Dios lloró.

He stared at him with a fixed gaze until Hazael was embarrassed. Then the man of God began to weep.
12 Y Hazael dijo: ¿Por qué llora mi señor? Entonces respondió: Porque sé el mal que harás a los hijos de Israel: incendiarás sus fortalezas, matarás a espada a sus jóvenes, estrellarás a sus niños y rasgarás el vientre a sus mujeres encintas.

“Why is my lord weeping?” asked Hazael. “Because I know the harm you will do to the Israelites,” he answered. “You will set fire to their fortified places, kill their young men with the sword, dash their little children to the ground, and rip open their pregnant women.”
13 Entonces Hazael dijo: Pero, ¿qué es tu siervo, sino un perro, para que haga tan enorme cosa? Y Eliseo respondió: El SEÑOR me ha mostrado que tú serás rey de Aram.

Hazael said, “How could your servant, a mere dog, accomplish such a feat?” “The LORD has shown me that you will become king of Aram,” answered Elisha.
14 Entonces él se alejó de Eliseo y regresó a su señor, quien le dijo: ¿Qué te dijo Eliseo? Y él respondió: Me dijo que ciertamente sanarás.

Then Hazael left Elisha and returned to his master. When Ben-Hadad asked, “What did Elisha say to you?” Hazael replied, “He told me that you would certainly recover.”
15 Y sucedió que al día siguiente tomó la manta, la empapó en agua y se la puso sobre la cara, y murió. Y Hazael reinó en su lugar.

But the next day he took a thick cloth, soaked it in water and spread it over the king’s face, so that he died. Then Hazael succeeded him as king.
