Genesis 17

LXX 1 And Abram was ninety-nine years old, and the Lord appeared to Abram and said to him, I am thy God, be well-pleasing before me, and be blameless. NIV 1 When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the LORD appeared to him and said, “I am God Almighty ; walk before me faithfully and be blameless. LXX 2 And I will establish my covenant between me and thee, and I will multiply thee exceedingly. NIV 2 Then I will make my covenant between me and you and will greatly increase your numbers.” LXX 3 And Abram fell upon his face, and God spoke to him, saying, NIV 3 Abram fell facedown, and God said to him, LXX 4 And I, behold! my covenant with thee, and thou shalt be a father of a multitude of nations. NIV 4 “As for me, this is my covenant with you: You will be the father of many nations. LXX 5 And thy name shall no more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraam, for I have made thee a father of many nations. NIV 5 No longer will you be called Abram ; your name will be Abraham, for I have made you a father of many nations. LXX 6 And I will increase thee very exceedingly, and I will make nations of thee, and kings shall come out of thee. NIV 6 I will make you very fruitful; I will make nations of you, and kings will come from you. LXX 7 And I will establish my covenant between thee and thy seed after thee, to their generations, for an everlasting covenant, to be thy God, and of thy seed after thee. NIV 7 I will establish my covenant as an everlasting covenant between me and you and your descendants after you for the generations to come, to be your God and the God of your descendants after you. LXX 8 And I will give to thee and to thy seed after thee the land wherein thou sojournest, even all the land of Chanaan for an everlasting possession, and I will be to them a God. NIV 8 The whole land of Canaan, where you now reside as a foreigner, I will give as an everlasting possession to you and your descendants after you; and I will be their God.” LXX 9 And God said to Abraam, Thou also shalt fully keep my covenant, thou and thy seed after thee for their generations. NIV 9 Then God said to Abraham, “As for you, you must keep my covenant, you and your descendants after you for the generations to come. LXX 10 And this the covenant which thou shalt fully keep between me and you, and between thy seed after thee for their generations; every male of you shall be circumcised. NIV 10 This is my covenant with you and your descendants after you, the covenant you are to keep: Every male among you shall be circumcised. LXX 11 And ye shall be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskin, and it shall be for a sign of a covenant between me and you. NIV 11 You are to undergo circumcision, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and you. LXX 12 And the child of eight days shall be circumcised by you, every male throughout your generations, and born in the house and he that is bought with money, of every son of a stranger, who is not of thy seed. NIV 12 For the generations to come every male among you who is eight days old must be circumcised, including those born in your household or bought with money from a foreigner—those who are not your offspring. LXX 13 He that is born in thy house, and he that is bought with money shall be surely circumcised, and my covenant shall be on your flesh for an everlasting covenant. NIV 13 Whether born in your household or bought with your money, they must be circumcised. My covenant in your flesh is to be an everlasting covenant. LXX 14 And the uncircumcised male, who shall not be circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin on the eighth day, that soul shall be utterly destroyed from its family, for he has broken my covenant. NIV 14 Any uncircumcised male, who has not been circumcised in the flesh, will be cut off from his people; he has broken my covenant.” LXX 15 And God said to Abraam, Sara thy wife—her name shall not be called Sara, Sarrha shall be her name. NIV 15 God also said to Abraham, “As for Sarai your wife, you are no longer to call her Sarai; her name will be Sarah. LXX 16 And I will bless her, and give thee a son of her, and I will bless him, and he shall become nations, and kings of nations shall be of him. NIV 16 I will bless her and will surely give you a son by her. I will bless her so that she will be the mother of nations; kings of peoples will come from her.” LXX 17 And Abraam fell upon his face, and laughed; and spoke in his heart, saying, Shall there be a child to one who is a hundred years old, and shall Sarrha who is ninety years old, bear? NIV 17 Abraham fell facedown; he laughed and said to himself, “Will a son be born to a man a hundred years old? Will Sarah bear a child at the age of ninety?” LXX 18 And Abraam said to God, Let this Ismael live before thee. NIV 18 And Abraham said to God, “If only Ishmael might live under your blessing!” LXX 19 And God said to Abraam, Yea, behold, Sarrha thy wife shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name Isaac; and I will establish my covenant with him, for an everlasting covenant, to be a God to him and to his seed after him. NIV 19 Then God said, “Yes, but your wife Sarah will bear you a son, and you will call him Isaac. I will establish my covenant with him as an everlasting covenant for his descendants after him. LXX 20 And concerning Ismael, behold, I have heard thee, and, behold, I have blessed him, and will increase him and multiply him exceedingly; twelve nations shall he beget, and I will make him a great nation. NIV 20 And as for Ishmael, I have heard you: I will surely bless him; I will make him fruitful and will greatly increase his numbers. He will be the father of twelve rulers, and I will make him into a great nation. LXX 21 But I will establish my covenant with Isaac, whom Sarrha shall bear to thee at this time, in the next year. NIV 21 But my covenant I will establish with Isaac, whom Sarah will bear to you by this time next year.” LXX 22 And he left off speaking with him, and God went up from Abraam. NIV 22 When he had finished speaking with Abraham, God went up from him. LXX 23 And Abraam took Ismael his son, and all his home-born , and all those bought with money, and every male of the men in the house of Abraam, and he circumcised their foreskins in the time of that day, according as God spoke to him. NIV 23 On that very day Abraham took his son Ishmael and all those born in his household or bought with his money, every male in his household, and circumcised them, as God told him. LXX 24 And Abraam was ninety-nine years old, when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin. NIV 24 Abraham was ninety-nine years old when he was circumcised, LXX 25 And Ismael his son was thirteen years old when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin. NIV 25 and his son Ishmael was thirteen; LXX 26 And at the period of that day, Abraam was circumcised, and Ismael his son, NIV 26 Abraham and his son Ishmael were both circumcised on that very day. LXX 27 and all the men of his house, both those born in the house, and those bought with money of foreign nations. NIV 27 And every male in Abraham’s household, including those born in his household or bought from a foreigner, was circumcised with him.
