Ask them, RHE 3 (2-4) Who is left among you, that saw this house in its first glory? and how do you see it now? is it not in comparison to that as nothing in your eyes? NIV 3 ‘Who of you is left who saw this house in its former glory? How does it look to you now? Does it not seem to you like nothing? RHE 4 (2-5) Yet now take courage, O Zorobabel, saith the Lord, and take courage, Jesus the son of Josedec the high priest, and take courage, all ye people of the land, saith the Lord of hosts: and perform (for I am with you, saith the Lord of hosts) NIV 4 But now be strong, Zerubbabel,’ declares the LORD. ‘Be strong, Joshua son of Jozadak, the high priest. RHE 5 (2-6) The word that I covenanted with you when you came out of the land of Egypt: and my spirit shall be in the midst of you: fear not. NIV 5 ‘This is what I covenanted with you when you came out of Egypt. And my Spirit remains among you. Do not fear.’ RHE 6 (2-7) For thus saith the Lord of hosts: Yet one little while, and I will move the heaven and the earth, and the sea, and the dry land. NIV 6 “This is what the LORD Almighty says: ‘In a little while I will once more shake the heavens and the earth, the sea and the dry land. RHE 7 (2-8) And I will move all nations: AND THE DESIRED OF ALL NATIONS SHALL COME: and I will fill this house with glory: saith the Lord of hosts. NIV 7 I will shake all nations, and what is desired by all nations will come, and I will fill this house with glory,’ says the LORD Almighty. RHE 8 (2-9) The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, saith the Lord of hosts. NIV 8 ‘The silver is mine and the gold is mine,’ declares the LORD Almighty. RHE 9 (2-10) Great shall be the glory of this last house more than of the first, saith the Lord of hosts: and in this place I will give peace, saith the Lord of hosts. NIV 9 ‘The glory of this present house will be greater than the glory of the former house,’ says the LORD Almighty. ‘And in this place I will grant peace,’ declares the LORD Almighty.” RHE 10 (2-11) In the four and twentieth day of the ninth month, in the second year of Darius the king, the word of the Lord came to Aggeus the prophet, saying: NIV 10 On the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, in the second year of Darius, the word of the LORD came to the prophet Haggai: RHE 11 (2-12) Thus saith the Lord of hosts: Ask the priests the law, saying: NIV 11 “This is what the LORD Almighty says: ‘Ask the priests what the law says: RHE 12 (2-13) If a man carry sanctified flesh in the skirt of his garment, and touch with his skirt, bread, or pottage, or wine, or oil, or any meat: shall it be sanctified? And the priests answered, and said: No. NIV 12 If someone carries consecrated meat in the fold of their garment, and that fold touches some bread or stew, some wine, olive oil or other food, does it become consecrated?’ ” The priests answered, “No.” RHE 13 (2-14) And Aggeus said: If one that is unclean by occasion of a soul touch any of all these things, shall it be defiled? And the priests answered, and said: It shall be defiled. NIV 13 Then Haggai said, “If a person defiled by contact with a dead body touches one of these things, does it become defiled?” “Yes,” the priests replied, “it becomes defiled.” RHE 14 (2-15) And Aggeus answered, and said: So is this people, and so is this nation before my face, saith the Lord, and so is all the work of their hands: and all that they have offered there, shall be defiled. NIV 14 Then Haggai said, “ ‘So it is with this people and this nation in my sight,’ declares the LORD. ‘Whatever they do and whatever they offer there is defiled. RHE 15 (2-16) And now consider in your hearts, from this day and upward, before there was a stone laid upon a stone in the temple of the Lord. RHE 17 (2-18) I struck you with a blasting wind, and all the works of your hand with the mildew and with hail, yet there was none among you that returned to me, saith the Lord. NIV 17 I struck all the work of your hands with blight, mildew and hail, yet you did not return to me,’ declares the LORD. RHE 18 (2-19) Set your hearts from this day, and henceforward, from the four and twentieth day of the ninth month: from the day that the foundations of the temple of the Lord were laid, and lay it up in your hearts. NIV 18 ‘From this day on, from this twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, give careful thought to the day when the foundation of the LORD’s temple was laid. Give careful thought: RHE 19 (2-20) Is the seed as yet sprung up? or hath the vine, and the fig tree, and the pomegranate, and the olive tree as yet flourished? from this day I will bless you. NIV 19 Is there yet any seed left in the barn? Until now, the vine and the fig tree, the pomegranate and the olive tree have not borne fruit. “ ‘From this day on I will bless you.’ ” RHE 20 (2-21) And the word of the Lord came a second time to Aggeus in the four and twentieth day of the month, saying: NIV 20 The word of the LORD came to Haggai a second time on the twenty-fourth day of the month: RHE 21 (2-22) Speak to Zorobabel the governor of Juda, saying: I will move both heaven and earth.
