John 1

JUB 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with the God, and the Word was God. NIV 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. JUB 2 The same was in the beginning with the God. NIV 2 He was with God in the beginning. JUB 3 All things were made by him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. NIV 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. JUB 4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men. NIV 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. JUB 5 And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness apprehended it not. NIV 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. JUB 6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. NIV 6 There was a man sent from God whose name was John. JUB 7 The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe. NIV 7 He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe. JUB 8 He was not the Light, but was sent to bear witness of the Light. NIV 8 He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light. JUB 9 That Word was the true Light, which lightens every man that comes into this world. NIV 9 The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. JUB 10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. NIV 10 He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. JUB 11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not. NIV 11 He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. JUB 12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become sons of God, even to them that believe on his name, NIV 12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— JUB 13 who are not born of blood, nor of the will of flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. NIV 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God. JUB 14 And the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father), full of grace and truth. NIV 14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. JUB 15 John bore witness of him and cried, saying, This is he of whom I spoke, He that comes after me is preferred before me, for he was before me. NIV 15 (John testified concerning him. He cried out, saying, “This is the one I spoke about when I said, ‘He who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.’ ”) JUB 16 And of his fullness we have all received, and grace for grace. NIV 16 Out of his fullness we have all received grace in place of grace already given. JUB 17 For the law was given through Moses, but the grace and the truth of God came through Jesus, the Christ. NIV 17 For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. JUB 18 No man has seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he has declared him. NIV 18 No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known. JUB 19 And this is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, Who art thou? NIV 19 Now this was John’s testimony when the Jewish leaders in Jerusalem sent priests and Levites to ask him who he was. JUB 20 And he confessed and denied not, but confessed, I am not the Christ. NIV 20 He did not fail to confess, but confessed freely, “I am not the Messiah.” JUB 21 And they asked him, What then? Art thou Elijah? And he said, I am not. Art thou the prophet? And he answered, No. NIV 21 They asked him, “Then who are you? Are you Elijah?” He said, “I am not.” “Are you the Prophet?” He answered, “No.” JUB 22 Then said they unto him, Who art thou? that we may give an answer to those that sent us. What sayest thou of thyself? NIV 22 Finally they said, “Who are you? Give us an answer to take back to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?” JUB 23 He said, I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Isaiah. NIV 23 John replied in the words of Isaiah the prophet, “I am the voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way for the Lord.’ ” JUB 24 And those who were sent were of the Pharisees. NIV 24 Now the Pharisees who had been sent JUB 25 And they asked him and said unto him, Why dost thou baptize then if thou art not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the prophet? NIV 25 questioned him, “Why then do you baptize if you are not the Messiah, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?” JUB 26 John answered them, saying, I baptize with water, but there stands one among you, whom ye know not; NIV 26 “I baptize with water,” John replied, “but among you stands one you do not know. JUB 27 he it is, who coming after me is preferred before me, whose shoe’s latchet I am not worthy to unloose. NIV 27 He is the one who comes after me, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie.” JUB 28 These things were done in Bethabara beyond Jordan, where John was baptizing. NIV 28 This all happened at Bethany on the other side of the Jordan, where John was baptizing. JUB 29 The next day John saw Jesus coming unto him and said, Behold the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world. NIV 29 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! JUB 30 This is he of whom I said, After me comes a man who is preferred before me, for he was before me. NIV 30 This is the one I meant when I said, ‘A man who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.’ JUB 31 And I knew him not; but that he should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water. NIV 31 I myself did not know him, but the reason I came baptizing with water was that he might be revealed to Israel.” JUB 32 And John gave testimony, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him. NIV 32 Then John gave this testimony: “I saw the Spirit come down from heaven as a dove and remain on him. JUB 33 And I knew him not; but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending and abiding on him, the same is he who baptizes with the Holy Spirit. NIV 33 And I myself did not know him, but the one who sent me to baptize with water told me, ‘The man on whom you see the Spirit come down and remain is the one who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.’ JUB 34 And I have seen and have given testimony that this is the Son of God. NIV 34 I have seen and I testify that this is God’s Chosen One.” JUB 35 And again the next day John stood, and two of his disciples, NIV 35 The next day John was there again with two of his disciples. JUB 36 and looking upon Jesus as he walked, he said, Behold the Lamb of God! NIV 36 When he saw Jesus passing by, he said, “Look, the Lamb of God!” JUB 37 And the two disciples heard him speak and followed Jesus. NIV 37 When the two disciples heard him say this, they followed Jesus. JUB 38 Then Jesus turned and saw them following and said unto them, What seek ye? They said unto him, Rabbi (which is to say, being interpreted, Master), where dwellest thou? NIV 38 Turning around, Jesus saw them following and asked, “What do you want?”They said, “Rabbi” (which means “Teacher”), “where are you staying?” JUB 39 He said unto them, Come and see. They came and saw where he dwelt and abode with him that day, for it was about the tenth hour. NIV 39 “Come,” he replied, “and you will see.”So they went and saw where he was staying, and they spent that day with him. It was about four in the afternoon. JUB 40 One of the two who heard John speak and followed him was Andrew, brother of Simon Peter. NIV 40 Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, was one of the two who heard what John had said and who had followed Jesus. JUB 41 He first found his own brother Simon and said unto him, We have found the Messias, which is, being interpreted, the Christ. NIV 41 The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother Simon and tell him, “We have found the Messiah” (that is, the Christ). JUB 42 And he brought him to Jesus. And when Jesus beheld him, he said, Thou art Simon the son of Jonah: thou shalt be called Cephas, which is by interpretation, A stone. NIV 42 And he brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, “You are Simon son of John. You will be called Cephas” (which, when translated, is Peter ). JUB 43 The day following Jesus desired to go forth into Galilee and found Philip and said unto him, Follow me. NIV 43 The next day Jesus decided to leave for Galilee. Finding Philip, he said to him, “Follow me.” JUB 44 Now Philip was of Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. NIV 44 Philip, like Andrew and Peter, was from the town of Bethsaida. JUB 45 Philip found Nathanael and said unto him, We have found him of whom Moses in the law and the prophets wrote: Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph. NIV 45 Philip found Nathanael and told him, “We have found the one Moses wrote about in the Law, and about whom the prophets also wrote—Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.” JUB 46 And Nathanael said unto him, Can any good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip said unto him, Come and see. NIV 46 “Nazareth! Can anything good come from there?” Nathanael asked. “Come and see,” said Philip. JUB 47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him and said of him, Behold a true Israelite, in whom is no guile! NIV 47 When Jesus saw Nathanael approaching, he said of him, “Here truly is an Israelite in whom there is no deceit.” JUB 48 Nathanael said unto him, From where dost thou know me? Jesus answered and said unto him, Before Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig tree, I saw thee. NIV 48 “How do you know me?” Nathanael asked. Jesus answered, “I saw you while you were still under the fig tree before Philip called you.” JUB 49 Nathanael answered and said unto him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel. NIV 49 Then Nathanael declared, “Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the king of Israel.” JUB 50 Jesus answered and said unto him, Because I said unto thee, I saw thee under the fig tree, believest thou? thou shalt see greater things than these. NIV 50 Jesus said, “You believebecause I told you I saw you under the fig tree. You will see greater things than that.” JUB 51 And he said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Hereafter ye shall see the heaven open and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man. NIV 51 He then added, “Very truly I tell you, youwill see ‘heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending on’the Son of Man.”
