1 Escuchen, hijos, la corrección de un padre;dispónganse a adquirir inteligencia.

Listen, my sons, to a father’s instruction; pay attention and gain understanding.
2 Yo les brindo buenas enseñanzas,así que no abandonen mi instrucción.

I give you sound learning, so do not forsake my teaching.
3 Cuando yo era pequeño y vivía con mi padre,cuando era el niño consentido de mi madre,

For I too was a son to my father, still tender, and cherished by my mother.
4 mi padre me instruyó de esta manera:«Aférrate de corazón a mis palabras;obedece mis mandamientos, y vivirás.

Then he taught me, and he said to me, “Take hold of my words with all your heart; keep my commands, and you will live.
5 Adquiere sabiduría, adquiere inteligencia;no olvides mis palabras ni te apartes de ellas.

Get wisdom, get understanding; do not forget my words or turn away from them.
6 No abandones nunca a la sabiduría,y ella te protegerá;ámala, y ella te cuidará.

Do not forsake wisdom, and she will protect you; love her, and she will watch over you.
7 La sabiduría es lo primero. ¡Adquiere sabiduría!Por sobre todas las cosas, adquiere discernimiento.

The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding.
8 Estima a la sabiduría, y ella te exaltará;abrázala, y ella te honrará;

Cherish her, and she will exalt you; embrace her, and she will honor you.
9 te pondrá en la cabeza una hermosa diadema;te obsequiará una bella corona».

She will give you a garland to grace your head and present you with a glorious crown.”
10 Escucha, hijo mío, acoge mis palabras,y los años de tu vida aumentarán.

Listen, my son, accept what I say, and the years of your life will be many.
11 Yo te guío por el camino de la sabiduría,te dirijo por sendas de rectitud.

I instruct you in the way of wisdom and lead you along straight paths.
12 Cuando camines, no encontrarás obstáculos;cuando corras, no tropezarás.

When you walk, your steps will not be hampered; when you run, you will not stumble.
13 Aférrate a la instrucción, no la dejes escapar;cuídala bien, que ella es tu vida.

Hold on to instruction, do not let it go; guard it well, for it is your life.
14 No sigas la senda de los perversosni vayas por el camino de los malvados.

Do not set foot on the path of the wicked or walk in the way of evildoers.
15 ¡Evita ese camino! ¡No pases por él!¡Aléjate de allí, y sigue de largo!

Avoid it, do not travel on it; turn from it and go on your way.
16 Los malvados no duermen si no hacen lo malo;pierden el sueño si no hacen que alguien caiga.

For they cannot rest until they do evil; they are robbed of sleep till they make someone stumble.
17 Su pan es la maldad;su vino, la violencia.

They eat the bread of wickedness and drink the wine of violence.
18 La senda de los justos se asemejaa los primeros albores de la aurora:su esplendor va en aumentohasta que el día alcanza su plenitud.

The path of the righteous is like the morning sun, shining ever brighter till the full light of day.
19 Pero el camino de los malvadoses como la más densa oscuridad;¡ni siquiera saben con qué tropiezan!

But the way of the wicked is like deep darkness; they do not know what makes them stumble.
20 Hijo mío, atiende a mis consejos;escucha atentamente lo que digo.

My son, pay attention to what I say; turn your ear to my words.
21 No pierdas de vista mis palabras;guárdalas muy dentro de tu corazón.

Do not let them out of your sight, keep them within your heart;
22 Ellas dan vida a quienes las hallan;son la salud del cuerpo.

for they are life to those who find them and health to one’s whole body.
23 Por sobre todas las cosas cuida tu corazón,porque de él mana la vida.

Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.
24 Aleja de tu boca la perversidad;aparta de tus labios las palabras corruptas.

Keep your mouth free of perversity; keep corrupt talk far from your lips.
25 Pon la mirada en lo que tienes delante;fija la vista en lo que está frente a ti.

Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you.
26 Endereza las sendas por donde andas;allana todos tus caminos.

Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways.
27 No te desvíes ni a diestra ni a siniestra;apártate de la maldad.

Do not turn to the right or the left; keep your foot from evil.
