Psalm 104

RHE 1 (103-1) <For David himself.> Bless the Lord, O my soul: O Lord my God, thou art exceedingly great. Thou hast put on praise and beauty: NIV 1 Praise the LORD, my soul. LORD my God, you are very great; you are clothed with splendor and majesty. RHE 2 (103-2) And art clothed with light as with a garment. Who stretchest out the heaven like a pavilion: NIV 2 The LORD wraps himself in light as with a garment; he stretches out the heavens like a tent RHE 3 (103-3) Who coverest the higher rooms thereof with water. Who makest the clouds thy chariot: who walkest upon the wings of the winds. NIV 3 and lays the beams of his upper chambers on their waters. He makes the clouds his chariot and rides on the wings of the wind. RHE 4 (103-4) Who makest thy angels spirits: and thy ministers a burning fire. NIV 4 He makes winds his messengers,flames of fire his servants. RHE 5 (103-5) Who hast founded the earth upon its own bases: it shall not be moved for ever and ever. NIV 5 He set the earth on its foundations; it can never be moved. RHE 6 (103-6) The deep like a garment is its clothing: above the mountains shall the waters stand. NIV 6 You covered it with the watery depths as with a garment; the waters stood above the mountains. RHE 7 (103-7) At thy rebuke they shall flee: at the voice of thy thunder they shall fear. NIV 7 But at your rebuke the waters fled, at the sound of your thunder they took to flight; RHE 8 (103-8) The mountains ascend, and the plains descend into the place which thou hast founded for them. NIV 8 they flowed over the mountains, they went down into the valleys, to the place you assigned for them. RHE 9 (103-9) Thou hast set a bound which they shall not pass over; neither shall they return to cover the earth. NIV 9 You set a boundary they cannot cross; never again will they cover the earth. RHE 10 (103-10) Thou sendest forth springs in the vales: between the midst of the hills the waters shall pass. NIV 10 He makes springs pour water into the ravines; it flows between the mountains. RHE 11 (103-11) All the beasts of the field shall drink: the wild asses shall expect in their thirst. NIV 11 They give water to all the beasts of the field; the wild donkeys quench their thirst. RHE 12 (103-12) Over them the birds of the air shall dwell: from the midst of the rocks they shall give forth their voices. NIV 12 The birds of the sky nest by the waters; they sing among the branches. RHE 13 (103-13) Thou waterest the hills from thy upper rooms: the earth shall be filled with the fruit of thy works: NIV 13 He waters the mountains from his upper chambers; the land is satisfied by the fruit of his work. RHE 14 (103-14) Bringing forth grass for cattle, and herb for the service of men. That thou mayst bring bread out of the earth: NIV 14 He makes grass grow for the cattle, and plants for people to cultivate— bringing forth food from the earth: RHE 15 (103-15) And that wine may cheer the heart of man. That he may make the face cheerful with oil: and that bread may strengthen man’s heart. NIV 15 wine that gladdens human hearts, oil to make their faces shine, and bread that sustains their hearts. RHE 16 (103-16) The trees of the field shall be filled, and the cedars of Libanus which he hath planted: NIV 16 The trees of the LORD are well watered, the cedars of Lebanon that he planted. RHE 17 (103-17) There the sparrows shall make their nests. The highest of them is the house of the heron. NIV 17 There the birds make their nests; the stork has its home in the junipers. RHE 18 (103-18) The high hills are a refuge for the harts, the rock for the irchins. NIV 18 The high mountains belong to the wild goats; the crags are a refuge for the hyrax. RHE 19 (103-19) He hath made the moon for seasons: the sun knoweth his going down. NIV 19 He made the moon to mark the seasons, and the sun knows when to go down. RHE 20 (103-20) Thou hast appointed darkness, and it is night: in it shall all the beasts of the woods go about: NIV 20 You bring darkness, it becomes night, and all the beasts of the forest prowl. RHE 21 (103-21) The young lions roaring after their prey, and seeking their meat from God. NIV 21 The lions roar for their prey and seek their food from God. RHE 22 (103-22) The sun ariseth, and they are gathered together: and they shall lie down in their dens. NIV 22 The sun rises, and they steal away; they return and lie down in their dens. RHE 23 (103-23) Man shall go forth to his work, and to his labour until the evening. NIV 23 Then people go out to their work, to their labor until evening. RHE 24 (103-24) How great are thy works, O Lord? thou hast made all things in wisdom: the earth is filled with thy riches. NIV 24 How many are your works, LORD! In wisdom you made them all; the earth is full of your creatures. RHE 25 (103-25) So is this great sea, which stretcheth wide its arms: there are creeping things without number: Creatures little and great. NIV 25 There is the sea, vast and spacious, teeming with creatures beyond number— living things both large and small. RHE 26 (103-26) There the ships shall go. This sea dragon which thou hast formed to play therein. NIV 26 There the ships go to and fro, and Leviathan, which you formed to frolic there. RHE 27 (103-27) All expect of thee that thou give them food in season. NIV 27 All creatures look to you to give them their food at the proper time. RHE 28 (103-28) What thou givest to them they shall gather up: when thou openest thy hand, they shall all be filled with good. NIV 28 When you give it to them, they gather it up; when you open your hand, they are satisfied with good things. RHE 29 (103-29) But if thou turnest away thy face, they shall be troubled: thou shalt take away their breath, and they shall fail, and shall return to their dust. NIV 29 When you hide your face, they are terrified; when you take away their breath, they die and return to the dust. RHE 30 (103-30) Thou shalt send forth thy spirit, and they shall be created: and thou shalt renew the face of the earth. NIV 30 When you send your Spirit, they are created, and you renew the face of the ground. RHE 31 (103-31) May the glory of the Lord endure for ever: the Lord shall rejoice in his works. NIV 31 May the glory of the LORD endure forever; may the LORD rejoice in his works— RHE 32 (103-32) He looketh upon the earth, and maketh it tremble: he troubleth the mountains, and they smoke. NIV 32 he who looks at the earth, and it trembles, who touches the mountains, and they smoke. RHE 33 (103-33) I will sing to the Lord as long as I live: I will sing praise to my God while I have my being. NIV 33 I will sing to the LORD all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live. RHE 34 (103-34) Let my speech be acceptable to him: but I will take delight in the Lord. NIV 34 May my meditation be pleasing to him, as I rejoice in the LORD. RHE 35 (103-35) Let sinners be consumed out of the earth, and the unjust, so that they be no more: O my soul, bless thou the Lord. NIV 35 But may sinners vanish from the earth and the wicked be no more. Praise the LORD, my soul. Praise the LORD.
