Psalm 18

LEB 1 And he said: "I love you, O Yahweh, my strength." NIV 1 I love you, LORD, my strength. LEB 2 Yahweh [is] my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock in whom I have taken refuge, my shield and the horn of my deliverance, my stronghold. NIV 2 The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. LEB 3 I called upon Yahweh, who is worthy to be praised, and I was saved from my enemies. NIV 3 I called to the LORD, who is worthy of praise, and I have been saved from my enemies. LEB 4 The ropes of death encircled me, and streams of ruin overwhelmed me. NIV 4 The cords of death entangled me; the torrents of destruction overwhelmed me. LEB 5 The ropes of Sheol surrounded me; [the] snares of death confronted me. NIV 5 The cords of the grave coiled around me; the snares of death confronted me. LEB 6 In my trouble I called on Yahweh, and to my God I cried for help. He heard my voice from his temple, and my cry for help came up before his presence into his ears. NIV 6 In my distress I called to the LORD; I cried to my God for help. From his temple he heard my voice; my cry came before him, into his ears. LEB 7 Then the earth shook and quaked, and [the] foundations of [the] mountains trembled, and they staggered because he was angry. NIV 7 The earth trembled and quaked, and the foundations of the mountains shook; they trembled because he was angry. LEB 8 Smoke went forth from his nose, and fire from his mouth consumed. Burning coals blazed from him. NIV 8 Smoke rose from his nostrils; consuming fire came from his mouth, burning coals blazed out of it. LEB 9 So he bowed [the] heavens and came down with a thick cloud under his feet. NIV 9 He parted the heavens and came down; dark clouds were under his feet. LEB 10 And he mounted a cherub and flew, and he swooped down on wings of wind. NIV 10 He mounted the cherubim and flew; he soared on the wings of the wind. LEB 11 He made darkness his hiding place; all about him his covering [was] a darkness of waters, {thick clouds}. NIV 11 He made darkness his covering, his canopy around him— the dark rain clouds of the sky. LEB 12 From the brightness before him his clouds passed over [with] hail and coals of fire. NIV 12 Out of the brightness of his presence clouds advanced, with hailstones and bolts of lightning. LEB 13 And Yahweh thundered from the heavens, and the Most High uttered his voice [with] hail and coals of fire. NIV 13 The LORD thundered from heaven; the voice of the Most High resounded. LEB 14 And he shot his arrows and scattered them, and many lightning bolts and routed them. NIV 14 He shot his arrows and scattered the enemy, with great bolts of lightning he routed them. LEB 15 Then the channels of [the] sea became visible, and [the] foundations of [the] world were uncovered by your rebuke, O Yahweh, by the {blast} of the wind of your nose. NIV 15 The valleys of the sea were exposed and the foundations of the earth laid bare at your rebuke, LORD, at the blast of breath from your nostrils. LEB 16 He reached from on high; he seized me. He drew me from many waters. NIV 16 He reached down from on high and took hold of me; he drew me out of deep waters. LEB 17 He delivered me from my strong enemy, and from [those who] hated me because they were stronger than I. NIV 17 He rescued me from my powerful enemy, from my foes, who were too strong for me. LEB 18 They confronted me on the day of disaster, but Yahweh was my support. NIV 18 They confronted me in the day of my disaster, but the LORD was my support. LEB 19 So he brought me out to a spacious place. He delivered me because he delighted in me. NIV 19 He brought me out into a spacious place; he rescued me because he delighted in me. LEB 20 Yahweh has rewarded me according to my righteousness; According to the cleanness of my hands he has repaid me. NIV 20 The LORD has dealt with me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands he has rewarded me. LEB 21 Because I have kept the ways of Yahweh, and have not acted wickedly against my God, NIV 21 For I have kept the ways of the LORD; I am not guilty of turning from my God. LEB 22 because all his ordinances [are] before me, and his statutes I have not removed from me, NIV 22 All his laws are before me; I have not turned away from his decrees. LEB 23 and I was blameless before him, and I kept myself from my guilt. NIV 23 I have been blameless before him and have kept myself from sin. LEB 24 Therefore Yahweh has repaid me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands in his sight. NIV 24 The LORD has rewarded me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands in his sight. LEB 25 To [the] loyal you show yourself loyal. To [the] blameless you show yourself blameless. NIV 25 To the faithful you show yourself faithful, to the blameless you show yourself blameless, LEB 26 To [the] pure you show yourself pure. but to [the] wicked you show yourself shrewd. NIV 26 to the pure you show yourself pure, but to the devious you show yourself shrewd. LEB 27 For you deliver humble people, but haughty eyes you humiliate. NIV 27 You save the humble but bring low those whose eyes are haughty. LEB 28 For you light my lamp; Yahweh, my God, lights up my darkness. NIV 28 You, LORD, keep my lamp burning; my God turns my darkness into light. LEB 29 For with you I can charge a troop, and with my God I can scale a wall. NIV 29 With your help I can advance against a troop ; with my God I can scale a wall. LEB 30 This God--his way [is] blameless. The word of Yahweh [is] flawless. He [is] a shield for all those who take refuge in him. NIV 30 As for God, his way is perfect: The LORD’s word is flawless; he shields all who take refuge in him. LEB 31 For who [is] God apart from Yahweh, and who [is] a rock except our God? NIV 31 For who is God besides the LORD? And who is the Rock except our God? LEB 32 The God who girded me [with] strength, and made safe my way, NIV 32 It is God who arms me with strength and keeps my way secure. LEB 33 he made my feet like the deer's, and on my high places he makes me stand. NIV 33 He makes my feet like the feet of a deer; he causes me to stand on the heights. LEB 34 [He] trains my hands for war, so that my arms can bend a bow of bronze. NIV 34 He trains my hands for battle; my arms can bend a bow of bronze. LEB 35 You also gave me the shield of your salvation, and your right hand supported me, and your humility made me great. NIV 35 You make your saving help my shield, and your right hand sustains me; your help has made me great. LEB 36 You enlarged my step under me, and my ankles did not slip. NIV 36 You provide a broad path for my feet, so that my ankles do not give way. LEB 37 I chased my enemies and overtook them; I did not turn back until they were finished [off]. NIV 37 I pursued my enemies and overtook them; I did not turn back till they were destroyed. LEB 38 I struck them and they were not able to stand up; they fell under my feet. NIV 38 I crushed them so that they could not rise; they fell beneath my feet. LEB 39 And you girded me [with] strength for the battle; [those] rising against me you made to kneel under me. NIV 39 You armed me with strength for battle; you humbled my adversaries before me. LEB 40 And you {made my enemies turn their backs}, then I destroyed those [who] hated me. NIV 40 You made my enemies turn their backs in flight, and I destroyed my foes. LEB 41 They cried out but there was no rescuer, [even] to Yahweh, but he did not answer them. NIV 41 They cried for help, but there was no one to save them— to the LORD, but he did not answer. LEB 42 And I ground them like dust {in the wind}, I emptied them out like mud of [the] streets. NIV 42 I beat them as fine as windblown dust; I trampled them like mud in the streets. LEB 43 You rescued me from strife with people; you set me as head (over) nations. People I did not know served me; NIV 43 You have delivered me from the attacks of the people; you have made me the head of nations. People I did not know now serve me, LEB 44 as soon as {they heard}, they obeyed me. [The] children of a foreign land feigned obedience before me. NIV 44 foreigners cower before me; as soon as they hear of me, they obey me. LEB 45 [The] children of a foreign land {lost heart}, and they came trembling from their strongholds. NIV 45 They all lose heart; they come trembling from their strongholds. LEB 46 Yahweh lives, and blessed [be] my rock, and may the God of my salvation be exalted-- NIV 46 The LORD lives! Praise be to my Rock! Exalted be God my Savior! LEB 47 the God who executed vengeance for me, and subdued peoples under me, NIV 47 He is the God who avenges me, who subdues nations under me, LEB 48 who delivered me from my enemies. Indeed, you exalted me higher than [those who] rose against me. You delivered me from the man of violence. NIV 48 who saves me from my enemies. You exalted me above my foes; from a violent man you rescued me. LEB 49 Therefore I will give thanks to you among the nations, O Yahweh, and I will sing [the praise] of your name: NIV 49 Therefore I will praise you, LORD, among the nations; I will sing the praises of your name. LEB 50 the one who makes great victories for his king, and [who] shows loyal love for his anointed, to David and to his descendants forever. NIV 50 He gives his king great victories; he shows unfailing love to his anointed, to David and to his descendants forever.
