Psalm 31

LEB 1 In you, O Yahweh, I have taken refuge. Let me not be put to shame ever. Deliver me by your righteousness. NIV 1 In you, LORD, I have taken refuge; let me never be put to shame; deliver me in your righteousness. LEB 2 Incline your ear to me. Quickly deliver me. Become my rock of refuge, {a fortified keep} to save me. NIV 2 Turn your ear to me, come quickly to my rescue; be my rock of refuge, a strong fortress to save me. LEB 3 For you [are] my rock and my fortress. So, for the sake of your name, lead me and guide me. NIV 3 Since you are my rock and my fortress, for the sake of your name lead and guide me. LEB 4 Bring me out of [the] net that they have secretly set for me, for you [are] my refuge. NIV 4 Keep me free from the trap that is set for me, for you are my refuge. LEB 5 Into your hand I commit my spirit. You have redeemed me, O Yahweh, faithful God. NIV 5 Into your hands I commit my spirit; deliver me, LORD, my faithful God. LEB 6 I hate those devoted to useless idols, but I trust Yahweh. NIV 6 I hate those who cling to worthless idols; as for me, I trust in the LORD. LEB 7 I will exult and rejoice in your loyal love. Because you have seen my misery, you know the distresses of my life. NIV 7 I will be glad and rejoice in your love, for you saw my affliction and knew the anguish of my soul. LEB 8 And you have not delivered me into [the] hand of [the] enemy. You have set my feet in a broad place. NIV 8 You have not given me into the hands of the enemy but have set my feet in a spacious place. LEB 9 Be gracious [to] me, O Yahweh, because I have distress. My eye wastes away because of vexation, [along with] my soul and my {body}. NIV 9 Be merciful to me, LORD, for I am in distress; my eyes grow weak with sorrow, my soul and body with grief. LEB 10 For my life is at an end with sorrow, and my years with sighing. My strength stumbles because of my iniquity, and my bones waste away. NIV 10 My life is consumed by anguish and my years by groaning; my strength fails because of my affliction, and my bones grow weak. LEB 11 Because of all my adversaries I have become a disgrace, especially to my neighbors, and a dread to my acquaintances. [Those who] see me in the street flee from me. NIV 11 Because of all my enemies, I am the utter contempt of my neighbors and an object of dread to my closest friends— those who see me on the street flee from me. LEB 12 I have become forgotten like [one] dead, out of {mind}. I am like a destroyed vessel. NIV 12 I am forgotten as though I were dead; I have become like broken pottery. LEB 13 For I hear [the] rumor of many, "Terror on every side!" When conspiring together against me, they have plotted to take my life. NIV 13 For I hear many whispering, “Terror on every side!” They conspire against me and plot to take my life. LEB 14 But as for me, I trust you, O Yahweh. I say, "You [are] my God." NIV 14 But I trust in you, LORD; I say, “You are my God.” LEB 15 My times [are] in your hand. Deliver me from the hand of my enemies and from [those who] pursue me. NIV 15 My times are in your hands; deliver me from the hands of my enemies, from those who pursue me. LEB 16 Shine your face upon your servant. Save me by your loyal love. NIV 16 Let your face shine on your servant; save me in your unfailing love. LEB 17 O Yahweh, let me not be put to shame, for I call on you. Let the wicked be put to shame. Let them [go] silently to Sheol. NIV 17 Let me not be put to shame, LORD, for I have cried out to you; but let the wicked be put to shame and be silent in the realm of the dead. LEB 18 Let lying lips be dumb, that speak against [the] righteous unrestrained with arrogance and contempt. NIV 18 Let their lying lips be silenced, for with pride and contempt they speak arrogantly against the righteous. LEB 19 How abundant [is] your goodness that you have stored up for [those who] fear you, that you perform for those who take refuge in you before [the] children of humankind. NIV 19 How abundant are the good things that you have stored up for those who fear you, that you bestow in the sight of all, on those who take refuge in you. LEB 20 You will hide them in the protection of your presence from [the] plots of man. You will hide them in a shelter from [the] strife of tongues. NIV 20 In the shelter of your presence you hide them from all human intrigues; you keep them safe in your dwelling from accusing tongues. LEB 21 Blessed [is] Yahweh, because he has worked marvelously his loyal love to me in a besieged city. NIV 21 Praise be to the LORD, for he showed me the wonders of his love when I was in a city under siege. LEB 22 As for me, I said in my alarm, "I am cut off from before your eyes." However you heard the voice of my supplications when I cried to you for help. NIV 22 In my alarm I said, “I am cut off from your sight!” Yet you heard my cry for mercy when I called to you for help. LEB 23 Love Yahweh, all you his faithful ones. Yahweh preserves [the] faithful but repays abundantly [the] one who acts arrogantly. NIV 23 Love the LORD, all his faithful people! The LORD preserves those who are true to him, but the proud he pays back in full. LEB 24 Be strong and let your heart show strength, all [you] who wait for Yahweh. NIV 24 Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the LORD.
