Psalm 53

CEB 1 Fools say in their hearts, There's no God. They are corrupt and do horrible deeds; not one of them does anything good. NRS 1 Fools say in their hearts, "There is no God." They are corrupt, they commit abominable acts; there is no one who does good. CEB 2 God looks down from heaven on humans to see if anyone is wise, to see if anyone seeks God. NRS 2 God looks down from heaven on humankind to see if there are any who are wise, who seek after God. CEB 3 But all have turned away. Everyone is corrupt. No one does good— not even one person! NRS 3 They have all fallen away, they are all alike perverse; there is no one who does good, no, not one. CEB 4 Are they dumb—these evildoers— devouring my people like they are eating bread but never calling on God? NRS 4 Have they no knowledge, those evildoers, who eat up my people as they eat bread, and do not call upon God? CEB 5 There, where there was nothing to fear, they will be in utter panic because God will scatter the bones of those who attacked you. You will put them to shame because God has rejected them. NRS 5 There they shall be in great terror, in terror such as has not been. For God will scatter the bones of the ungodly; they will be put to shame, for God has rejected them. CEB 6 Let Israel's salvation come out of Zion! When God changes his people's circumstances for the better, Jacob will rejoice; Israel will celebrate! NRS 6 O that deliverance for Israel would come from Zion! When God restores the fortunes of his people, Jacob will rejoice; Israel will be glad.
