Psalm 59

GW 1 Rescue me from my enemies, O my God. Protect me from those who attack me. NIV 1 Deliver me from my enemies, O God; be my fortress against those who are attacking me. GW 2 Rescue me from troublemakers. Save me from bloodthirsty people. NIV 2 Deliver me from evildoers and save me from those who are after my blood. GW 3 They lie in ambush for me right here! Fierce men attack me, O LORD, but not because of any disobedience, NIV 3 See how they lie in wait for me! Fierce men conspire against me for no offense or sin of mine, LORD. GW 4 or any sin, or any guilt on my part. They hurry to take positions against me. Wake up, and help me; see [for yourself]. NIV 4 I have done no wrong, yet they are ready to attack me. Arise to help me; look on my plight! GW 5 O LORD God of Armies, God of Israel, arise to punish all the nations. Have no pity on any traitors. Selah NIV 5 You, LORD God Almighty, you who are the God of Israel, rouse yourself to punish all the nations; show no mercy to wicked traitors. GW 6 They return in the evening. They howl like dogs. They prowl the city. NIV 6 They return at evening, snarling like dogs, and prowl about the city. GW 7 See what pours out of their mouths-- swords from their lips! [They think,] "Who will hear us?" NIV 7 See what they spew from their mouths— the words from their lips are sharp as swords, and they think, “Who can hear us?” GW 8 O LORD, you laugh at them. You make fun of all the nations. NIV 8 But you laugh at them, LORD; you scoff at all those nations. GW 9 O my strength, I watch for you! God is my stronghold, my merciful God! NIV 9 You are my strength, I watch for you; you, God, are my fortress, GW 10 God will come to meet me. He will let me gloat over those who spy on me. NIV 10 my God on whom I can rely. God will go before me and will let me gloat over those who slander me. GW 11 Do not kill them. Otherwise, my people may forget. Make them wander aimlessly by your power. Bring them down, O Lord, our shield, NIV 11 But do not kill them, Lord our shield,or my people will forget. In your might uproot them and bring them down. GW 12 [because of] the sins from their mouths and the words on their lips. Let them be trapped by their own arrogance because they speak curses and lies. NIV 12 For the sins of their mouths, for the words of their lips, let them be caught in their pride. For the curses and lies they utter, GW 13 Destroy them in your rage. Destroy them until not one of them is left. Then they will know that God rules Jacob to the ends of the earth. Selah NIV 13 consume them in your wrath, consume them till they are no more. Then it will be known to the ends of the earth that God rules over Jacob. GW 14 They return in the evening. They howl like dogs. They prowl the city. NIV 14 They return at evening, snarling like dogs, and prowl about the city. GW 15 They wander around to find something to eat. If they are not full enough, they will stay all night. NIV 15 They wander about for food and howl if not satisfied. GW 16 But I will sing about your strength. In the morning I will joyfully sing about your mercy. You have been my stronghold and a place of safety in times of trouble. NIV 16 But I will sing of your strength, in the morning I will sing of your love; for you are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble. GW 17 O my strength, I will make music to praise you! God is my stronghold, my merciful God! NIV 17 You are my strength, I sing praise to you; you, God, are my fortress, my God on whom I can rely.
