Psalm 69

NAS 1 Save me, O God, For the waters have threatened my life. NIV 1 Save me, O God, for the waters have come up to my neck. NAS 2 I have sunk in deep mire, and there is no foothold; I have come into deep waters, and a flood overflows me. NIV 2 I sink in the miry depths, where there is no foothold. I have come into the deep waters; the floods engulf me. NAS 3 I am weary with my crying; my throat is parched; My eyes fail while I wait for my God. NIV 3 I am worn out calling for help; my throat is parched. My eyes fail, looking for my God. NAS 4 Those who hate me without a cause are more than the hairs of my head; Those who would destroy me are powerful, being wrongfully my enemies; What I did not steal, I then have to restore. NIV 4 Those who hate me without reason outnumber the hairs of my head; many are my enemies without cause, those who seek to destroy me. I am forced to restore what I did not steal. NAS 5 O God, it is You who knows my folly, And my wrongs are not hidden from You. NIV 5 You, God, know my folly; my guilt is not hidden from you. NAS 6 May those who wait for You not be ashamed through me, O Lord GOD of hosts; May those who seek You not be dishonored through me, O God of Israel, NIV 6 Lord, the LORD Almighty, may those who hope in you not be disgraced because of me; God of Israel, may those who seek you not be put to shame because of me. NAS 7 Because for Your sake I have borne reproach; Dishonor has covered my face. NIV 7 For I endure scorn for your sake, and shame covers my face. NAS 8 I have become estranged from my brothers And an alien to my mother's sons. NIV 8 I am a foreigner to my own family, a stranger to my own mother’s children; NAS 9 For zeal for Your house has consumed me, And the reproaches of those who reproach You have fallen on me. NIV 9 for zeal for your house consumes me, and the insults of those who insult you fall on me. NAS 10 When I wept in my soul with fasting, It became my reproach. NIV 10 When I weep and fast, I must endure scorn; NAS 11 When I made sackcloth my clothing, I became a byword to them. NIV 11 when I put on sackcloth, people make sport of me. NAS 12 Those who sit in the gate talk about me, And I am the song of the drunkards . NIV 12 Those who sit at the gate mock me, and I am the song of the drunkards. NAS 13 But as for me, my prayer is to You, O LORD , at an acceptable time; O God, in the greatness of Your lovingkindness, Answer me with Your saving truth. NIV 13 But I pray to you, LORD, in the time of your favor; in your great love, O God, answer me with your sure salvation. NAS 14 Deliver me from the mire and do not let me sink; May I be delivered from my foes and from the deep waters. NIV 14 Rescue me from the mire, do not let me sink; deliver me from those who hate me, from the deep waters. NAS 15 May the flood of water not overflow me Nor the deep swallow me up, Nor the pit shut its mouth on me. NIV 15 Do not let the floodwaters engulf me or the depths swallow me up or the pit close its mouth over me. NAS 16 Answer me, O LORD , for Your lovingkindness is good; According to the greatness of Your compassion, turn to me, NIV 16 Answer me, LORD, out of the goodness of your love; in your great mercy turn to me. NAS 17 And do not hide Your face from Your servant, For I am in distress; answer me quickly. NIV 17 Do not hide your face from your servant; answer me quickly, for I am in trouble. NAS 18 Oh draw near to my soul and redeem it; Ransom me because of my enemies! NIV 18 Come near and rescue me; deliver me because of my foes. NAS 19 You know my reproach and my shame and my dishonor; All my adversaries are before You. NIV 19 You know how I am scorned, disgraced and shamed; all my enemies are before you. NAS 20 Reproach has broken my heart and I am so sick. And I looked for sympathy, but there was none, And for comforters, but I found none. NIV 20 Scorn has broken my heart and has left me helpless; I looked for sympathy, but there was none, for comforters, but I found none. NAS 21 They also gave me gall for my food And for my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink. NIV 21 They put gall in my food and gave me vinegar for my thirst. NAS 22 May their table before them become a snare; And when they are in peace, may it become a trap. NIV 22 May the table set before them become a snare; may it become retribution and a trap. NAS 23 May their eyes grow dim so that they cannot see, And make their loins shake continually. NIV 23 May their eyes be darkened so they cannot see, and their backs be bent forever. NAS 24 Pour out Your indignation on them, And may Your burning anger overtake them. NIV 24 Pour out your wrath on them; let your fierce anger overtake them. NAS 25 May their camp be desolate; May none dwell in their tents. NIV 25 May their place be deserted; let there be no one to dwell in their tents. NAS 26 For they have persecuted him whom You Yourself have smitten, And they tell of the pain of those whom You have wounded. NIV 26 For they persecute those you wound and talk about the pain of those you hurt. NAS 27 Add iniquity to their iniquity, And may they not come into Your righteousness. NIV 27 Charge them with crime upon crime; do not let them share in your salvation. NAS 28 May they be blotted out of the book of life And may they not be recorded with the righteous. NIV 28 May they be blotted out of the book of life and not be listed with the righteous. NAS 29 But I am afflicted and in pain; May Your salvation, O God, set me securely on high. NIV 29 But as for me, afflicted and in pain— may your salvation, God, protect me. NAS 30 I will praise the name of God with song And magnify Him with thanksgiving. NIV 30 I will praise God’s name in song and glorify him with thanksgiving. NAS 31 And it will please the LORD better than an ox Or a young bull with horns and hoofs. NIV 31 This will please the LORD more than an ox, more than a bull with its horns and hooves. NAS 32 The humble have seen it and are glad; You who seek God, let your heart revive. NIV 32 The poor will see and be glad— you who seek God, may your hearts live! NAS 33 For the LORD hears the needy And does not despise His who are prisoners. NIV 33 The LORD hears the needy and does not despise his captive people. NAS 34 Let heaven and earth praise Him, The seas and everything that moves in them. NIV 34 Let heaven and earth praise him, the seas and all that move in them, NAS 35 For God will save Zion and build the cities of Judah, That they may dwell there and possess it. NIV 35 for God will save Zion and rebuild the cities of Judah. Then people will settle there and possess it; NAS 36 The descendants of His servants will inherit it, And those who love His name will dwell in it. NIV 36 the children of his servants will inherit it, and those who love his name will dwell there.
