1 Pablo conoce a Priscila y a Aquila en Corinto<br />Después Pablo salió de Atenas y fue a Corinto.

2 Allí conoció a un judío llamado Aquila, nacido en la región del Ponto, quien estaba recién llegado de Italia junto con su esposa, Priscila. Habían salido de Italia cuando Claudio César deportó de Roma a todos los judíos.

3 Pablo se quedó a vivir y a trabajar con ellos, porque eran fabricantes de carpas<br /> al igual que él.

4 Cada día de descanso, Pablo se encontraba en la sinagoga tratando de persuadir tanto a judíos como a griegos.

5 Después de que Silas y Timoteo llegaron de Macedonia, Pablo pasó todo el tiempo predicando la palabra. Testificaba a los judíos que Jesús era el Mesías;

6 pero cuando ellos se opusieron y lo insultaron, Pablo se sacudió el polvo de su ropa y dijo: «La sangre de ustedes está sobre sus propias cabezas; yo soy inocente. De ahora en adelante iré a predicar a los gentiles<br />».

7 Entonces salió de allí y fue a la casa de Ticio Justo, un gentil que adoraba a Dios y que vivía al lado de la sinagoga.

8 Crispo, el líder de la sinagoga, y todos los de su casa creyeron en el Señor. Muchos otros en Corinto también escucharon a Pablo, se convirtieron en creyentes y fueron bautizados.

9 Una noche, el Señor le habló a Pablo en una visión y le dijo:

10 Pues yo estoy contigo, y nadie te atacará ni te hará daño, porque mucha gente de esta ciudad me pertenece».

11 Así que Pablo se quedó allí un año y medio enseñando la palabra de Dios.

12 Cuando Galión llegó a ser gobernador de Acaya, unos judíos se levantaron contra Pablo y lo llevaron ante el gobernador para juzgarlo.

13 Acusaron a Pablo de «persuadir a la gente a adorar a Dios en formas contrarias a nuestra ley».

14 Pero justo cuando Pablo comenzó a defenderse, Galión se dirigió a los acusadores de Pablo y dijo: «Escuchen, ustedes judíos, si aquí hubiera alguna fechoría o un delito grave, yo tendría una razón para aceptar el caso;

15 pero dado que es solo un asunto de palabras y nombres, y de su ley judía, resuélvanlo ustedes mismos. Me niego a juzgar tales asuntos».

16 Así que los expulsó de la corte.

17 Entonces la multitud<br /> agarró a Sóstenes, el líder de la sinagoga, y lo golpeó allí mismo en la corte; pero Galión no le dio a eso ninguna importancia.

18 Pablo regresa a Antioquía de Siria<br />Después Pablo se quedó en Corinto un tiempo más, luego se despidió de los hermanos y fue a Cencrea, que quedaba cerca. Allí se rapó la cabeza según la costumbre judía en señal de haber cumplido un voto. Después se embarcó hacia Siria y llevó a Priscila y a Aquila con él.

19 Primero se detuvieron en el puerto de Éfeso, donde Pablo dejó a los demás. Mientras estuvo en Éfeso, fue a la sinagoga para razonar con los judíos.

20 Le pidieron que se quedara más tiempo, pero él se negó.

21 Al irse, sin embargo, dijo: «Si Dios quiere, regresaré».<br /> Entonces zarpó de Éfeso.

25 Había recibido enseñanza en el camino del Señor y les enseñó a otros acerca de Jesús con espíritu entusiasta<br /> y con precisión. Sin embargo, él sólo sabía acerca del bautismo de Juan.

26 Cuando Priscila y Aquila lo escucharon predicar con valentía en la sinagoga, lo llevaron aparte y le explicaron el camino de Dios con aún más precisión.

27 Apolos pensaba ir a Acaya, y los hermanos de Éfeso lo animaron para que fuera. Les escribieron a los creyentes de Acaya para pedirles que lo recibieran. Cuando Apolos llegó, resultó ser de gran beneficio para los que, por la gracia de Dios, habían creído.

28 Refutaba a los judíos en debates públicos con argumentos poderosos. Usando las Escrituras, les explicaba que Jesús es el Mesías.

1 After this, Paul left Athens and went to Corinth.

2 There he met a Jew named Aquila, a native of Pontus, who had recently come from Italy with his wife Priscilla, because Claudius had ordered all Jews to leave Rome. Paul went to see them,

3 and because he was a tentmaker as they were, he stayed and worked with them.

4 Every Sabbath he reasoned in the synagogue, trying to persuade Jews and Greeks.

5 When Silas and Timothy came from Macedonia, Paul devoted himself exclusively to preaching, testifying to the Jews that Jesus was the Messiah.

6 But when they opposed Paul and became abusive, he shook out his clothes in protest and said to them, “Your blood be on your own heads! I am innocent of it. From now on I will go to the Gentiles.”

7 Then Paul left the synagogue and went next door to the house of Titius Justus, a worshiper of God.

8 Crispus, the synagogue leader, and his entire household believed in the Lord; and many of the Corinthians who heard Paul believed and were baptized.

9 One night the Lord spoke to Paul in a vision: “Do not be afraid; keep on speaking, do not be silent.

10 For I am with you, and no one is going to attack and harm you, because I have many people in this city.”

11 So Paul stayed in Corinth for a year and a half, teaching them the word of God.

12 While Gallio was proconsul of Achaia, the Jews of Corinth made a united attack on Paul and brought him to the place of judgment.

13 “This man,” they charged, “is persuading the people to worship God in ways contrary to the law.”

14 Just as Paul was about to speak, Gallio said to them, “If you Jews were making a complaint about some misdemeanor or serious crime, it would be reasonable for me to listen to you.

15 But since it involves questions about words and names and your own law—settle the matter yourselves. I will not be a judge of such things.”

16 So he drove them off.

17 Then the crowd there turned on Sosthenes the synagogue leader and beat him in front of the proconsul; and Gallio showed no concern whatever.

18 Paul stayed on in Corinth for some time. Then he left the brothers and sisters and sailed for Syria, accompanied by Priscilla and Aquila. Before he sailed, he had his hair cut off at Cenchreae because of a vow he had taken.

19 They arrived at Ephesus, where Paul left Priscilla and Aquila. He himself went into the synagogue and reasoned with the Jews.

20 When they asked him to spend more time with them, he declined.

21 But as he left, he promised, “I will come back if it is God’s will.” Then he set sail from Ephesus.

22 When he landed at Caesarea, he went up to Jerusalem and greeted the church and then went down to Antioch.

23 After spending some time in Antioch, Paul set out from there and traveled from place to place throughout the region of Galatia and Phrygia, strengthening all the disciples.

24 Meanwhile a Jew named Apollos, a native of Alexandria, came to Ephesus. He was a learned man, with a thorough knowledge of the Scriptures.

25 He had been instructed in the way of the Lord, and he spoke with great fervor and taught about Jesus accurately, though he knew only the baptism of John.

26 He began to speak boldly in the synagogue. When Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they invited him to their home and explained to him the way of God more adequately.

27 When Apollos wanted to go to Achaia, the brothers and sisters encouraged him and wrote to the disciples there to welcome him. When he arrived, he was a great help to those who by grace had believed.

28 For he vigorously refuted his Jewish opponents in public debate, proving from the Scriptures that Jesus was the Messiah.
