Acts 1:5-15

BBE 5 For the baptism of John was with water, but you will have baptism with the Holy Spirit, after a little time. NIV 5 For John baptized withwater, but in a few days you will be baptized withthe Holy Spirit.” BBE 6 So, when they were together, they said to him, Lord, will you at this time give back the kingdom to Israel? NIV 6 Then they gathered around him and asked him, “Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?” BBE 7 And he said to them, It is not for you to have knowledge of the time and the order of events which the Father has kept in his control. NIV 7 He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. BBE 8 But you will have power, when the Holy Spirit has come on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and all Judaea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. NIV 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” BBE 9 And when he had said these things, while they were looking, he was taken up, and went from their view into a cloud. NIV 9 After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight. BBE 10 And while they were looking up to heaven with great attention, two men came to them, in white clothing, NIV 10 They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. BBE 11 And said, O men of Galilee, why are you looking up into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken from you into heaven, will come again, in the same way as you saw him go into heaven. NIV 11 “Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.” BBE 12 Then they went back to Jerusalem from the mountain named Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a Sabbath day's journey away. NIV 12 Then the apostles returned to Jerusalem from the hill called the Mount of Olives, a Sabbath day’s walk from the city. BBE 13 And when they came in, they went up into the room where they were living; Peter and John and James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James, the son of Alphaeus, and Simon the Zealot, and Judas, the son of James. NIV 13 When they arrived, they went upstairs to the room where they were staying. Those present were Peter, John, James and Andrew; Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew; James son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot, and Judas son of James. BBE 14 And they all with one mind gave themselves up to prayer, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers. NIV 14 They all joined together constantly in prayer, along with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brothers. BBE 15 And in those days Peter got up among the brothers (there were about one hundred and twenty of them), and said, NIV 15 In those days Peter stood up among the believers (a group numbering about a hundred and twenty)
