Amos 5:19-27

LXX 19 As if a man should flee from the face of a lion, and a bear should meet him; and he should spring into his house, and lean his hands upon the wall, and a serpent should bite him. NIV 19 It will be as though a man fled from a lion only to meet a bear, as though he entered his house and rested his hand on the wall only to have a snake bite him. LXX 20 Is not the day of the Lord darkness, and not light? and is not this gloom without brightness? NIV 20 Will not the day of the LORD be darkness, not light— pitch-dark, without a ray of brightness? LXX 21 I hate, I reject your feasts, and I will not smell meat-offerings in your general assemblies. NIV 21 “I hate, I despise your religious festivals; your assemblies are a stench to me. LXX 22 Wherefore if ye should bring me your whole-burnt-sacrifices and meat-offerings, I will not accept : neither will I have respect to your grand peace-offerings. NIV 22 Even though you bring me burnt offerings and grain offerings, I will not accept them. Though you bring choice fellowship offerings, I will have no regard for them. LXX 23 Remove from me the sound of thy songs, and I will not hear the music of thine instruments. NIV 23 Away with the noise of your songs! I will not listen to the music of your harps. LXX 24 But let judgment roll down as water, and righteousness as an impassable torrent. NIV 24 But let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream! LXX 25 Have ye offered to me victims and sacrifices, O house of Israel, forty years in the wilderness? NIV 25 “Did you bring me sacrifices and offerings forty years in the wilderness, people of Israel? LXX 26 Yea, ye took up the tabernacle of Moloch, and the star of your god Raephan, the images of them which ye made for yourselves. NIV 26 You have lifted up the shrine of your king, the pedestal of your idols, the star of your god — which you made for yourselves. LXX 27 And I will carry you away beyond Damascus, saith the Lord, the Almighty God is his name. NIV 27 Therefore I will send you into exile beyond Damascus,” says the LORD, whose name is God Almighty.
