1 Yóudà wáng yuē yǎ jìng zaì wèi dì sān nián , Bābǐlún wáng Níbùjiǎnísǎ lái dào Yēlùsǎlĕng , jiāng chéng wéi kùn .
1 In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came to Jerusalem and besieged it.
2 Zhǔ jiāng Yóudà wáng yuē yǎ jìng , bìng shén diàn zhōng qìmǐn de jǐ fēn jiāofù tā shǒu . tā jiù bǎ zhè qìmǐn daì dào Shìnádì dì , shōu rù tā shén de miào lǐ , fàng zaì tā shén de kù zhōng .
2 And the Lord delivered Jehoiakim king of Judah into his hand, along with some of the articles from the temple of God. These he carried off to the temple of his god in Babylonia and put in the treasure house of his god.
3 Wáng fēnfu taì jiān cháng yà shī pí ná , cóng Yǐsèliè rén de zōng shì hé guìzhòu zhōng daì jìn jǐ gèrén lái ,
3 Then the king ordered Ashpenaz, chief of his court officials, to bring into the king’s service some of the Israelites from the royal family and the nobility—
4 Jiù shì nián shǎo méiyǒu cánji , xiàngmào jùnmĕi , tōngdá gèyàng xuéwen , zhīshi cōngming jū beì , zú néng shì lì zaì wánggōng lǐ de , yào jiāo tāmen Jiālèdǐ de wén zì yányǔ .
4 young men without any physical defect, handsome, showing aptitude for every kind of learning, well informed, quick to understand, and qualified to serve in the king’s palace. He was to teach them the language and literature of the Babylonians.
5 Wáng paì déng jiāng zìjǐ suǒ yòng de shàn hé suǒ yǐn de jiǔ , mĕi rì cì tāmen yī fēn , yǎng tāmen sān nián . mǎn le sān nián , hǎo jiào tāmen zaì wáng miànqián shì lì .
5 The king assigned them a daily amount of food and wine from the king’s table. They were to be trained for three years, and after that they were to enter the king’s service.
6 Tāmen zhōngjiān yǒu Yóudà zú de rén , Dànyǐlǐ , hǎ ná ní yǎ , Mǐshālì , Yàsālìyǎ .
6 Among those who were chosen were some from Judah: Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah.
7 Taì jiān zhǎng gĕi tāmen qǐmíng , chēng Dànyǐlǐ wèi bǎi tí shā sǎ , cchēng hǎ ná ní yǎ wèi shā dé lá , chēng Mǐshālì wèi mǐ shā , chēng Yàsālìyǎ wèi Yàbó ní gē .
7 The chief official gave them new names: to Daniel, the name Belteshazzar; to Hananiah, Shadrach; to Mishael, Meshach; and to Azariah, Abednego.
8 Dànyǐlǐ què lìzhì bú yǐ wáng de shàn hé wáng suǒ yǐn de jiǔ diànwū zìjǐ , suǒyǐ qiú taì jiān zhǎng róng tā bú diànwū zìjǐ .
8 But Daniel resolved not to defile himself with the royal food and wine, and he asked the chief official for permission not to defile himself this way.
9 Shén shǐ Dànyǐlǐ zaì taì jiān zhǎng yǎnqián méng ēnhuì , shòu liánmǐn .
9 Now God had caused the official to show favor and compassion to Daniel,
10 Taì jiān zhǎng duì Dànyǐlǐ shuō , wǒ jùpà wǒ zhǔ wǒ wáng , tā yǐjing paì déng nǐmen de yǐnshí . tǎngruò tā jiàn nǐmen de miànmào bǐ nǐmen tóng suì de shàonián rén jī shòu , zĕnme hǎo ne . zhèyàng , nǐmen jiù shǐ wǒde tóu zaì wáng nàli nán bǎo .
10 but the official told Daniel, “I am afraid of my lord the king, who has assigned your food and drink. Why should he see you looking worse than the other young men your age? The king would then have my head because of you.”
11 Dànyǐlǐ duì taì jiān zhǎng suǒ paì guǎnlǐ Dànyǐlǐ , hǎ ná ní yǎ , Mǐshālì , Yàsālìyǎ de wēi bàn shuō ,
11 Daniel then said to the guard whom the chief official had appointed over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah,
12 Qiú nǐ shì shì púrén men shí tiān , gĕi wǒmen sù caì chī , bái shuǐ hē ,
12 “Please test your servants for ten days: Give us nothing but vegetables to eat and water to drink.
13 Ránhòu kàn kàn wǒmen de miànmào hé yòng wáng shàn nà shàonián rén de miànmào , jiù zhào nǐ suǒ kàn de dāi púrén ba .
13 Then compare our appearance with that of the young men who eat the royal food, and treat your servants in accordance with what you see.”
14 Wĕi bàn biàn yún zhún tāmen zhè jiàn shì , shì kàn tāmen shí tiān .
14 So he agreed to this and tested them for ten days.
15 Guō le shí tiān , jiàn tāmende miànmào bǐ yòng wáng shàn de yīqiè shàonián rén gèngjiā jùnmĕi féi pàng .
15 At the end of the ten days they looked healthier and better nourished than any of the young men who ate the royal food.
16 Yúshì wĕi bàn chè qù paì tāmen yòng de shàn , yǐn de jiǔ , gĕi tāmen sù caì chī .
16 So the guard took away their choice food and the wine they were to drink and gave them vegetables instead.
17 Zhè sì gè shàonián rén , shén zaì gèyàng wén zì xuéwen ( xuéwen yuánwén zuò zhìhuì ) shang cìgĕi tāmen cōngming zhīshi . Dànyǐlǐ yòu míngbai gèyàng de yìxiàng hé mèng zhào .
17 To these four young men God gave knowledge and understanding of all kinds of literature and learning. And Daniel could understand visions and dreams of all kinds.
18 Ní bù Jiǎní sǎ wáng yùdéng daì jìn shàonián rén lái de rìqī mǎn le , taì jiān zhǎng jiù bǎ tāmen daì dào wáng miànqián .
18 At the end of the time set by the king to bring them into his service, the chief official presented them to Nebuchadnezzar.
19 Wáng yǔ tāmen tánlùn , jiàn shàonián rén zhōng wú yī rén néng bǐ Dànyǐlǐ , hǎ ná ní yǎ , Mǐshālì , Yàsālìyǎ , suǒyǐ liú tāmen zaì wáng miànqián shì lì .
19 The king talked with them, and he found none equal to Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah; so they entered the king’s service.
20 Wáng kǎo wèn tāmen yīqiè shì , jiù jiàn tāmende zhìhuì cōngming bǐ tōng guó de shùshì hé yòng fǎshù de shēng guō shí beì .
20 In every matter of wisdom and understanding about which the king questioned them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and enchanters in his whole kingdom.
21 Dào Gǔliè wáng yuán nián , Dànyǐlǐ hái zaì .
21 And Daniel remained there until the first year of King Cyrus.
