18 Hago este pacto contigo, para que nadie —hombre o mujer, clan o tribu— se aparte del Señor<br /> nuestro Dios para rendir culto a esos dioses de otras naciones, y para que ninguna raíz produzca frutos amargos y venenosos en medio de ti.

Make sure there is no man or woman, clan or tribe among you today whose heart turns away from the LORD our God to go and worship the gods of those nations; make sure there is no root among you that produces such bitter poison.
19 »Los que oyen las advertencias de esta maldición no deberían confiarse demasiado y pensar: “Estoy a salvo, a pesar de que sigo los deseos de mi corazón terco”. ¡Eso los llevaría a la ruina total!

When such a person hears the words of this oath and they invoke a blessing on themselves, thinking, “I will be safe, even though I persist in going my own way,” they will bring disaster on the watered land as well as the dry.
20 Y el Señor<br /> jamás perdonará a los que piensan así. Por el contrario, su enojo y su celo arderán contra ellos. Les caerán encima todas las maldiciones escritas en este libro, y el Señor<br /> borrará sus nombres de la faz de la tierra.

The LORD will never be willing to forgive them; his wrath and zeal will burn against them. All the curses written in this book will fall on them, and the LORD will blot out their names from under heaven.

The LORD will single them out from all the tribes of Israel for disaster, according to all the curses of the covenant written in this Book of the Law.
22 »Entonces las generaciones futuras, tanto tus descendientes como los extranjeros que vengan de tierras lejanas, verán la devastación de tu tierra y las enfermedades con las que el Señor<br /> la aflige.

Your children who follow you in later generations and foreigners who come from distant lands will see the calamities that have fallen on the land and the diseases with which the LORD has afflicted it.
23 Exclamarán: “Toda esta tierra quedó devastada con azufre y sal. Es una tierra baldía, sin cultivos, donde no crece nada, ni siquiera un tallo de pasto. Es como las ciudades de Sodoma y Gomorra, Adma y Zeboim, las cuales el Señor<br /> destruyó en su intenso enojo”.

The whole land will be a burning waste of salt and sulfur—nothing planted, nothing sprouting, no vegetation growing on it. It will be like the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboyim, which the LORD overthrew in fierce anger.
24 »Todas las naciones vecinas preguntarán: “¿Por qué el Señor<br /> afligió así a esa tierra? ¿Por qué se enojó tanto?”.

All the nations will ask: “Why has the LORD done this to this land? Why this fierce, burning anger?”
25 »Y la respuesta será: “Sucedió porque el pueblo de esa tierra abandonó el pacto que el Señor<br />, Dios de sus antepasados, hizo con ellos cuando los sacó de la tierra de Egipto.

And the answer will be: “It is because this people abandoned the covenant of the LORD, the God of their ancestors, the covenant he made with them when he brought them out of Egypt.
26 En cambio, se apartaron de él para servir y rendir culto a dioses que no conocían, dioses que no provenían del Señor<br />.

They went off and worshiped other gods and bowed down to them, gods they did not know, gods he had not given them.
27 Por esa razón, el enojo del Señor<br /> ardió contra esa tierra y cayeron sobre ella cada una de las maldiciones registradas en este libro.

Therefore the LORD’s anger burned against this land, so that he brought on it all the curses written in this book.
28 ¡Con gran enojo y furia, el Señor<br /> desarraigó a su propio pueblo de la tierra y lo desterró a otra nación, donde ellos viven hasta el día de hoy!”.

In furious anger and in great wrath the LORD uprooted them from their land and thrust them into another land, as it is now.”
