Eclesiastés 4:1-8

1 Me volví <I>y</I> vi todas las violencias que se hacen debajo del sol; y he aquí las lágrimas de los oprimidos, y que no tienen consolador; y que la fuerza <I>estaba</I> en la mano de sus opresores, y para ellos no <I> había</I> consolador.

2 Y alabé yo <I>a</I> los finados que ya murieron, más que <I>a</I> los vivientes que hasta ahora están vivos.

3 Y <I>tuve por</I> mejor que ellos ambos al que no ha sido aún, porque no ha visto las malas obras que se hacen debajo del sol.

4 He visto asimismo que todo trabajo y toda rectitud de obras mueve la envidia del hombre contra su prójimo. También esto <I>es</I> vanidad y aflicción de espíritu.

5 El loco dobla sus manos y come su <I>misma</I> carne.

6 Más vale un puño lleno con descanso, que ambos puños llenos con trabajo y aflicción de espíritu.

7 Yo me volví otra vez, y vi <I>otra</I> vanidad debajo del sol.

8 Es el <I>hombre</I> solo y sin sucesor; que ni tiene hijo ni hermano; mas nunca cesa de trabajar, ni aun sus ojos se sacian de sus riquezas, <I>ni piensa</I> : ¿Para quién trabajo yo, y defraudo mi alma del bien? También esto <I>es</I> vanidad, y duro trabajo.

New International Version NIV

1 Again I looked and saw all the oppression that was taking place under the sun: I saw the tears of the oppressed— and they have no comforter; power was on the side of their oppressors— and they have no comforter.

2 And I declared that the dead, who had already died, are happier than the living, who are still alive.

3 But better than both is the one who has never been born, who has not seen the evil that is done under the sun.

4 And I saw that all toil and all achievement spring from one person’s envy of another. This too is meaningless, a chasing after the wind.

5 Fools fold their hands and ruin themselves.

6 Better one handful with tranquillity than two handfuls with toil and chasing after the wind.

7 Again I saw something meaningless under the sun:

8 There was a man all alone; he had neither son nor brother. There was no end to his toil, yet his eyes were not content with his wealth. “For whom am I toiling,” he asked, “and why am I depriving myself of enjoyment?” This too is meaningless— a miserable business!
