1 O foolish Galatians, who has bewitched you that ye should not trust in the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ has been evidently set forth, crucified among you?

You foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? Before your very eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed as crucified.
2 This only would I learn of you, Did ye receive the Spirit by the works of the law or by the <em>obedient</em> ear of faith?

I would like to learn just one thing from you: Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by believing what you heard?
3 Are ye so foolish? having begun by the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?

Are you so foolish? After beginning by means of the Spirit, are you now trying to finish by means of the flesh?
4 Have ye suffered so many things in vain? if <em>it be</em> yet in vain.

Have you experienced so much in vain—if it really was in vain?
5 He therefore that gives unto you the Spirit and does works of power among you, <em>does he do it</em> by the works of the law or by the <em>obedient</em> ear of faith?

So again I ask, does God give you his Spirit and work miracles among you by the works of the law, or by your believing what you heard?
