Galatians 5:1-13

ESV 1 For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery. NIV 1 It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. ESV 2 Look: I, Paul, say to you that if you accept circumcision, Christ will be of no advantage to you. NIV 2 Mark my words! I, Paul, tell you that if you let yourselves be circumcised, Christ will be of no value to you at all. ESV 3 I testify again to every man who accepts circumcision that he is obligated to keep the whole law. NIV 3 Again I declare to every man who lets himself be circumcised that he is obligated to obey the whole law. ESV 4 You are severed from Christ, you who would be justified by the law; you have fallen away from grace. NIV 4 You who are trying to be justified by the law have been alienated from Christ; you have fallen away from grace. ESV 5 For through the Spirit, by faith, we ourselves eagerly wait for the hope of righteousness. NIV 5 For through the Spirit we eagerly await by faith the righteousness for which we hope. ESV 6 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision counts for anything, but only faith working through love. NIV 6 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision has any value. The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love. ESV 7 You were running well. Who hindered you from obeying the truth? NIV 7 You were running a good race. Who cut in on you to keep you from obeying the truth? ESV 8 This persuasion is not from him who calls you. NIV 8 That kind of persuasion does not come from the one who calls you. ESV 9 A little leaven leavens the whole lump. NIV 9 “A little yeast works through the whole batch of dough.” ESV 10 I have confidence in the Lord that you will take no other view than mine, and the one who is troubling you will bear the penalty, whoever he is. NIV 10 I am confident in the Lord that you will take no other view. The one who is throwing you into confusion, whoever that may be, will have to pay the penalty. ESV 11 But if I, brothers, still preach circumcision, why am I still being persecuted? In that case the offense of the cross has been removed. NIV 11 Brothers and sisters, if I am still preaching circumcision, why am I still being persecuted? In that case the offense of the cross has been abolished. ESV 12 I wish those who unsettle you would emasculate themselves! NIV 12 As for those agitators, I wish they would go the whole way and emasculate themselves! ESV 13 For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. NIV 13 You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh ; rather, serve one another humbly in love.
