Genesis 22:12-23

NLT 12 “Don’t lay a hand on the boy!” the angel said. “Do not hurt him in any way, for now I know that you truly fear God. You have not withheld from me even your son, your only son.” NIV 12 “Do not lay a hand on the boy,” he said. “Do not do anything to him. Now I know that you fear God, because you have not withheld from me your son, your only son.” NLT 13 Then Abraham looked up and saw a ram caught by its horns in a thicket. So he took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering in place of his son. NIV 13 Abraham looked up and there in a thicket he saw a ram caught by its horns. He went over and took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering instead of his son. NLT 14 Abraham named the place Yahweh-Yireh (which means “the LORD will provide”). To this day, people still use that name as a proverb: “On the mountain of the LORD it will be provided.” NIV 14 So Abraham called that place The LORD Will Provide. And to this day it is said, “On the mountain of the LORD it will be provided.” NLT 15 Then the angel of the LORD called again to Abraham from heaven. NIV 15 The angel of the LORD called to Abraham from heaven a second time NLT 16 “This is what the LORD says: Because you have obeyed me and have not withheld even your son, your only son, I swear by my own name that NIV 16 and said, “I swear by myself, declares the LORD, that because you have done this and have not withheld your son, your only son, NLT 17 I will certainly bless you. I will multiply your descendants beyond number, like the stars in the sky and the sand on the seashore. Your descendants will conquer the cities of their enemies. NIV 17 I will surely bless you and make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as the sand on the seashore. Your descendants will take possession of the cities of their enemies, NLT 18 And through your descendants all the nations of the earth will be blessed—all because you have obeyed me.” NIV 18 and through your offspring all nations on earth will be blessed, because you have obeyed me.” NLT 19 Then they returned to the servants and traveled back to Beersheba, where Abraham continued to live. NIV 19 Then Abraham returned to his servants, and they set off together for Beersheba. And Abraham stayed in Beersheba. NLT 20 Soon after this, Abraham heard that Milcah, his brother Nahor’s wife, had borne Nahor eight sons. NIV 20 Some time later Abraham was told, “Milkah is also a mother; she has borne sons to your brother Nahor: NLT 21 The oldest was named Uz, the next oldest was Buz, followed by Kemuel (the ancestor of the Arameans), NIV 21 Uz the firstborn, Buz his brother, Kemuel (the father of Aram), NLT 22 Kesed, Hazo, Pildash, Jidlaph, and Bethuel. NIV 22 Kesed, Hazo, Pildash, Jidlaph and Bethuel.” NLT 23 (Bethuel became the father of Rebekah.) In addition to these eight sons from Milcah, NIV 23 Bethuel became the father of Rebekah. Milkah bore these eight sons to Abraham’s brother Nahor.
