Genesis 4:1-7

ESV 1 Now Adam knew Eve his wife, and she conceived and bore Cain, saying, "I have gotten a man with the help of the LORD." NIV 1 Adam made love to his wife Eve, and she became pregnant and gave birth to Cain. She said, “With the help of the LORD I have brought forth a man.” ESV 2 And again, she bore his brother Abel. Now Abel was a keeper of sheep, and Cain a worker of the ground. NIV 2 Later she gave birth to his brother Abel. Now Abel kept flocks, and Cain worked the soil. ESV 3 In the course of time Cain brought to the LORD an offering of the fruit of the ground, NIV 3 In the course of time Cain brought some of the fruits of the soil as an offering to the LORD. ESV 4 and Abel also brought of the firstborn of his flock and of their fat portions. And the LORD had regard for Abel and his offering, NIV 4 And Abel also brought an offering—fat portions from some of the firstborn of his flock. The LORD looked with favor on Abel and his offering, ESV 5 but for Cain and his offering he had no regard. So Cain was very angry, and his face fell. NIV 5 but on Cain and his offering he did not look with favor. So Cain was very angry, and his face was downcast. ESV 6 The LORD said to Cain, "Why are you angry, and why has your face fallen? NIV 6 Then the LORD said to Cain, “Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast? ESV 7 If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door. Its desire is for you, but you must rule over it." NIV 7 If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it.”
