1 Mensaje acerca de Samaria<br />¡Qué aflicción le espera a la orgullosa ciudad de Samaria,<br />la corona gloriosa de los borrachos de Israel!<br />Está asentada a la cabeza de un valle fértil,<br />pero su belleza gloriosa se marchitará como una flor.<br />Es el orgullo de un pueblo<br />que el vino derribó.

Woe to that wreath, the pride of Ephraim’s drunkards, to the fading flower, his glorious beauty, set on the head of a fertile valley— to that city, the pride of those laid low by wine!
2 Pues el Señor enviará un poderoso ejército en su contra;<br />como un potente granizo y una lluvia torrencial,<br />se lanzarán sobre ella como las aguas embravecidas de una inundación<br />y la aplastarán contra el suelo.

See, the Lord has one who is powerful and strong. Like a hailstorm and a destructive wind, like a driving rain and a flooding downpour, he will throw it forcefully to the ground.
3 La orgullosa ciudad de Samaria,<br />la corona gloriosa de los borrachos de Israel,<br />será pisoteada bajo los pies de sus enemigos.

That wreath, the pride of Ephraim’s drunkards, will be trampled underfoot.
4 Está asentada a la cabeza de un valle fértil,<br />pero su belleza gloriosa se marchitará como una flor.<br />Cualquiera que la vea la arrancará,<br />como a higo que brota temprano y pronto se arranca y se come.

That fading flower, his glorious beauty, set on the head of a fertile valley, will be like figs ripe before harvest— as soon as people see them and take them in hand, they swallow them.
5 Entonces por fin el Señor<br /> de los Ejércitos Celestiales<br />será la corona gloriosa de Israel;<br />será el orgullo y la alegría<br />del remanente de su pueblo.

In that day the LORD Almighty will be a glorious crown, a beautiful wreath for the remnant of his people.
6 Él dará a sus jueces<br />anhelo de justicia<br />y gran valentía<br />a sus guerreros que vigilan las puertas.

He will be a spirit of justice to the one who sits in judgment, a source of strength to those who turn back the battle at the gate.
7 Sin embargo, ahora Israel es dirigido por borrachos<br />que dan tumbos por el vino y se tambalean a causa del alcohol.<br />Los sacerdotes y los profetas se tambalean a causa del alcohol,<br />y se pierden por el vino.<br />Dan tumbos cuando tienen visiones<br />y se tambalean cuando emiten sus decisiones.

And these also stagger from wine and reel from beer: Priests and prophets stagger from beer and are befuddled with wine; they reel from beer, they stagger when seeing visions, they stumble when rendering decisions.
8 Sus mesas están cubiertas de vómito;<br />hay inmundicia por todas partes.

All the tables are covered with vomit and there is not a spot without filth.
9 «¿Quién se cree el Señor<br /> que somos? —preguntan—,<br />¿por qué nos habla así?<br />¿Acaso somos niños pequeños,<br />recién destetados?

“Who is it he is trying to teach? To whom is he explaining his message? To children weaned from their milk, to those just taken from the breast?
10 ¡Una y otra vez nos repite todo,<br />línea por línea,<br />renglón por renglón,<br />un poco aquí<br />y un poco allá!».

For it is: Do this, do that, a rule for this, a rule for that ; a little here, a little there.”
11 Así que, ahora, ¡Dios tendrá que hablar a su pueblo<br />por medio de opresores extranjeros que hablan una lengua extraña!

Very well then, with foreign lips and strange tongues God will speak to this people,
12 Dios le ha dicho a su pueblo:<br />«Aquí hay un lugar de descanso;<br />que reposen aquí los fatigados.<br />Este es un lugar tranquilo para descansar»;<br />pero ellos no quisieron escuchar.

to whom he said, “This is the resting place, let the weary rest”; and, “This is the place of repose”— but they would not listen.
13 Por eso el Señor<br /> nuevamente les explicará su mensaje en detalle:<br />línea por línea,<br />renglón por renglón,<br />un poco aquí<br />y un poco allá;<br />para que tropiecen y caigan.<br />Ellos serán heridos, caerán en la trampa y serán capturados.

So then, the word of the LORD to them will become: Do this, do that, a rule for this, a rule for that; a little here, a little there— so that as they go they will fall backward; they will be injured and snared and captured.
14 Por lo tanto, escuchen este mensaje del Señor<br />,<br />ustedes, gobernantes burlones de Jerusalén.

Therefore hear the word of the LORD, you scoffers who rule this people in Jerusalem.
15 Se jactan diciendo: «Hemos hecho un trato para burlar a la muerte<br />y hemos llegado a un acuerdo para evitar la tumba.<br />La destrucción que se aproxima nunca podrá tocarnos,<br />porque nos hemos edificado un fuerte refugio hecho de mentiras y engaños».

You boast, “We have entered into a covenant with death, with the realm of the dead we have made an agreement. When an overwhelming scourge sweeps by, it cannot touch us, for we have made a lie our refuge and falsehood our hiding place.”
16 Por lo tanto, esto dice el Señor<br /> Soberano:<br />«¡Miren! Pongo una piedra de cimiento en Jerusalén,<br />una piedra sólida y probada.<br />Es una preciosa piedra principal sobre la cual se puede construir con seguridad.<br />El que crea jamás será sacudido.

So this is what the Sovereign LORD says: “See, I lay a stone in Zion, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone for a sure foundation; the one who relies on it will never be stricken with panic.
17 Los probaré con la cuerda de medir de la justicia<br />y con la plomada de la rectitud.<br />Puesto que su refugio está construido de mentiras,<br />un granizo lo echará abajo.<br />Puesto que está hecho de engaños,<br />una inundación lo arrasará.

I will make justice the measuring line and righteousness the plumb line; hail will sweep away your refuge, the lie, and water will overflow your hiding place.
18 Anularé el trato que ustedes hicieron para burlar a la muerte,<br />y revocaré su acuerdo para evitar la tumba.<br />Cuando el terrible enemigo arrase la tierra,<br />ustedes serán pisoteados.

Your covenant with death will be annulled; your agreement with the realm of the dead will not stand. When the overwhelming scourge sweeps by, you will be beaten down by it.
19 Una y otra vez vendrá esa inundación,<br />mañana tras mañana,<br />día y noche,<br />hasta que arrase con todos ustedes».<br />Este mensaje llenará de terror al pueblo.

As often as it comes it will carry you away; morning after morning, by day and by night, it will sweep through.” The understanding of this message will bring sheer terror.
20 La cama que ustedes hicieron es demasiado pequeña para acostarse en ella<br />y las mantas son demasiado estrechas para cubrirlos.

The bed is too short to stretch out on, the blanket too narrow to wrap around you.
21 El Señor<br /> vendrá, como lo hizo contra los filisteos en el monte Perazim,<br />y contra los amorreos en Gabaón.<br />Vendrá para hacer algo extraño;<br />vendrá para hacer algo poco común:

The LORD will rise up as he did at Mount Perazim, he will rouse himself as in the Valley of Gibeon— to do his work, his strange work, and perform his task, his alien task.
22 el Señor, el Señor<br /> de los Ejércitos Celestiales,<br />ha dicho con claridad que está decidido a aplastar toda la tierra.<br />Así que no se burlen más,<br />de lo contrario, su castigo será aún mayor.

Now stop your mocking, or your chains will become heavier; the Lord, the LORD Almighty, has told me of the destruction decreed against the whole land.
23 Escúchenme;<br />escuchen y presten mucha atención.

Listen and hear my voice; pay attention and hear what I say.
24 ¿Acaso el agricultor siempre ara pero nunca siembra?<br />¿Está continuamente labrando la tierra y nunca plantando?

When a farmer plows for planting, does he plow continually? Does he keep on breaking up and working the soil?
25 ¿No siembra finalmente sus semillas<br />—comino negro, comino, trigo, cebada y trigo espelta—<br />cada uno en la forma correcta,<br />y cada uno en el lugar que le corresponde?

When he has leveled the surface, does he not sow caraway and scatter cumin? Does he not plant wheat in its place,barley in its plot,and spelt in its field?
26 El agricultor sabe exactamente qué hacer<br />porque Dios le ha dado entendimiento.

His God instructs him and teaches him the right way.
27 Nunca se usa un mazo pesado para trillar el comino negro,<br />sino que se golpea con varas livianas.<br />Nunca se pasa una rueda de trillar sobre el comino,<br />al contrario, se golpea suavemente con un mayal.

Caraway is not threshed with a sledge, nor is the wheel of a cart rolled over cumin; caraway is beaten out with a rod, and cumin with a stick.
28 El grano para el pan se muele con facilidad,<br />por eso no lo tritura demasiado.<br />Lo trilla bajo las ruedas de una carreta,<br />pero no lo pulveriza.

Grain must be ground to make bread; so one does not go on threshing it forever. The wheels of a threshing cart may be rolled over it, but one does not use horses to grind grain.
29 El Señor<br /> de los Ejércitos Celestiales es un maestro maravilloso,<br />y le da gran sabiduría al agricultor.

All this also comes from the LORD Almighty, whose plan is wonderful, whose wisdom is magnificent.
