1 Enfermedad y recuperación de Ezequías<br />Por ese tiempo, Ezequías se enfermó gravemente, y el profeta Isaías, hijo de Amoz, fue a visitarlo. Le dio al rey el siguiente mensaje: «Esto dice el Señor<br />: “Pon tus asuntos en orden porque vas a morir. No te recuperarás de esta enfermedad”».

2 Cuando Ezequías oyó el mensaje, volvió su rostro hacia la pared y oró al Señor<br />:

3 «Acuérdate, oh Señor<br />, que siempre te he sido fiel y te he servido con singular determinación, haciendo siempre lo que te agrada»; y el rey se echó a llorar amargamente.

4 Luego Isaías recibió este mensaje de parte del Señor<br />:

5 «Regresa y dile a Ezequías: “Esto dice el Señor<br />, Dios de tu antepasado David: ‘He oído tu oración y he visto tus lágrimas. Te añadiré quince años más de vida

6 y te rescataré del rey de Asiria junto con esta ciudad. Así es, defenderé esta ciudad’”.

7 »Esta es la señal del Señor<br /> para demostrar que cumplirá lo que ha prometido:

8 “¡Haré retroceder diez gradas la sombra del sol en el reloj solar<br /> de Acaz!”». Así que la sombra se movió diez gradas hacia atrás en el reloj solar.

9 Poema de alabanza de Ezequías<br />Cuando el rey Ezequías se recuperó, escribió el siguiente poema:

10 Yo dije: «¿En la flor de mi vida<br />tengo que entrar en el lugar de los muertos?<br />¿Acaso seré privado del resto de mis años?».

11 Dije: «Nunca más veré al Señor<br /> D<br />en la tierra de los vivos.<br />Nunca más veré a mis amigos<br />ni estaré con los que viven en este mundo.

12 Se me voló la vida<br />como la carpa de un pastor en medio de una tormenta.<br />Fue cortada,<br />como cuando el tejedor corta la tela del telar.<br />De repente, mi vida se había acabado.

13 Esperé con paciencia toda la noche,<br />pero me sentía como si unos leones me estuvieran despedazando.<br />De repente, mi vida se había acabado.

14 En mi delirio, gorjeaba como una golondrina o una grulla,<br />y después gemía como una paloma torcaza.<br />Se me cansaban los ojos de mirar al cielo en busca de ayuda.<br />Estoy en apuros, Señor. ¡Ayúdame!».

15 Pero ¿qué podía decir?<br />Pues él mismo envió esta enfermedad.<br />Ahora caminaré con humildad durante el resto de mis años<br />a causa de esta angustia que he sentido.

16 Señor<br />, tu disciplina es buena,<br />porque lleva a la vida y a la salud.<br />¡Tú restauras mi salud<br />y me permites vivir!

17 Sí, esta angustia ha sido buena para mí,<br />porque me has rescatado de la muerte<br />y has perdonado todos mis pecados.

18 Pues los muertos<br /> no pueden alabarte;<br />no pueden levantar la voz en alabanza.<br />Los que bajan a la tumba<br />ya no pueden esperar en tu fidelidad.

19 Solo los vivos pueden alabarte como yo lo hago hoy.<br />Cada generación le habla de tu fidelidad a la siguiente.

20 Imagínense: el Señor<br /> está dispuesto a sanarme.<br />Cantaré sus alabanzas con instrumentos<br />todos los días de mi vida<br />en el templo del Señor<br />.

21 Isaías les había dicho a los siervos de Ezequías: «Preparen un ungüento de higos y úntenlo sobre la llaga, y Ezequías se recuperará».

22 Y Ezequías había preguntado: «¿Qué señal probará que iré al templo del Señor<br />?».

1 In those days Hezekiah became ill and was at the point of death. The prophet Isaiah son of Amoz went to him and said, “This is what the LORD says: Put your house in order, because you are going to die; you will not recover.”

2 Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the LORD,

3 “Remember, LORD, how I have walked before you faithfully and with wholehearted devotion and have done what is good in your eyes.” And Hezekiah wept bitterly.

4 Then the word of the LORD came to Isaiah:

5 “Go and tell Hezekiah, ‘This is what the LORD, the God of your father David, says: I have heard your prayer and seen your tears; I will add fifteen years to your life.

6 And I will deliver you and this city from the hand of the king of Assyria. I will defend this city.

7 “ ‘This is the LORD’s sign to you that the LORD will do what he has promised:

8 I will make the shadow cast by the sun go back the ten steps it has gone down on the stairway of Ahaz.’ ” So the sunlight went back the ten steps it had gone down.

9 A writing of Hezekiah king of Judah after his illness and recovery:

10 I said, “In the prime of my life must I go through the gates of death and be robbed of the rest of my years?”

11 I said, “I will not again see the LORD himself in the land of the living; no longer will I look on my fellow man, or be with those who now dwell in this world.

12 Like a shepherd’s tent my house has been pulled down and taken from me. Like a weaver I have rolled up my life, and he has cut me off from the loom; day and night you made an end of me.

13 I waited patiently till dawn, but like a lion he broke all my bones; day and night you made an end of me.

14 I cried like a swift or thrush, I moaned like a mourning dove. My eyes grew weak as I looked to the heavens. I am being threatened; Lord, come to my aid!”

15 But what can I say? He has spoken to me, and he himself has done this. I will walk humbly all my years because of this anguish of my soul.

16 Lord, by such things people live; and my spirit finds life in them too. You restored me to health and let me live.

17 Surely it was for my benefit that I suffered such anguish. In your love you kept me from the pit of destruction; you have put all my sins behind your back.

18 For the grave cannot praise you, death cannot sing your praise; those who go down to the pit cannot hope for your faithfulness.

19 The living, the living—they praise you, as I am doing today; parents tell their children about your faithfulness.

20 The LORD will save me, and we will sing with stringed instruments all the days of our lives in the temple of the LORD.

21 Isaiah had said, “Prepare a poultice of figs and apply it to the boil, and he will recover.”

22 Hezekiah had asked, “What will be the sign that I will go up to the temple of the LORD?”
