James 1:14-24

NRSA 14 But one is tempted by one's own desire, being lured and enticed by it; NIV 14 but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. NRSA 15 then, when that desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin, and that sin, when it is fully grown, gives birth to death. NIV 15 Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death. NRSA 16 Do not be deceived, my beloved. NIV 16 Don’t be deceived, my dear brothers and sisters. NRSA 17 Every generous act of giving, with every perfect gift, is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. NIV 17 Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. NRSA 18 In fulfillment of his own purpose he gave us birth by the word of truth, so that we would become a kind of first fruits of his creatures. NIV 18 He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created. NRSA 19 You must understand this, my beloved: let everyone be quick to listen, slow to speak, slow to anger; NIV 19 My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, NRSA 20 for your anger does not produce God's righteousness. NIV 20 because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires. NRSA 21 Therefore rid yourselves of all sordidness and rank growth of wickedness, and welcome with meekness the implanted word that has the power to save your souls. NIV 21 Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you. NRSA 22 But be doers of the word, and not merely hearers who deceive themselves. NIV 22 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. NRSA 23 For if any are hearers of the word and not doers, they are like those who look at themselves in a mirror; NIV 23 Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror NRSA 24 for they look at themselves and, on going away, immediately forget what they were like. NIV 24 and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.
