Jeremiah 1:1-10

KJV 1 The words of Jeremiah the son of Hilkiah, of the priests that were in Anathoth in the land of Benjamin: NIV 1 The words of Jeremiah son of Hilkiah, one of the priests at Anathoth in the territory of Benjamin. KJV 2 To whom the word of the LORD came in the days of Josiah the son of Amon king of Judah, in the thirteenth year of his reign. NIV 2 The word of the LORD came to him in the thirteenth year of the reign of Josiah son of Amon king of Judah, KJV 3 It came also in the days of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, unto the end of the eleventh year of Zedekiah the son of Josiah king of Judah, unto the carrying away of Jerusalem captive in the fifth month. NIV 3 and through the reign of Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah, down to the fifth month of the eleventh year of Zedekiah son of Josiah king of Judah, when the people of Jerusalem went into exile. KJV 4 Then the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, NIV 4 The word of the LORD came to me, saying, KJV 5 Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations. NIV 5 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” KJV 6 Then said I, Ah, Lord GOD! behold, I cannot speak: for I am a child. NIV 6 “Alas, Sovereign LORD,” I said, “I do not know how to speak; I am too young.” KJV 7 But the LORD said unto me, Say not, I am a child: for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak. NIV 7 But the LORD said to me, “Do not say, ‘I am too young.’ You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you. KJV 8 Be not afraid of their faces: for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the LORD. NIV 8 Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you,” declares the LORD. KJV 9 Then the LORD put forth his hand, and touched my mouth. And the LORD said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth. NIV 9 Then the LORD reached out his hand and touched my mouth and said to me, “I have put my words in your mouth. KJV 10 See, I have this day set thee over the nations and over the kingdoms, to root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to throw down, to build, and to plant. NIV 10 See, today I appoint you over nations and kingdoms to uproot and tear down, to destroy and overthrow, to build and to plant.”
