1 Palabra que vino a Jeremías acerca de todos los judíos que moraban en la tierra de Egipto, que moraban en Migdol, y en Tafnes, y en Menfis, y en tierra de Patros, diciendo:

2 Así dijo el SEÑOR de los ejércitos, Dios de Israel: Vosotros habéis visto todo el mal que traje sobre Jerusalén y sobre todas las ciudades de Judá; y he aquí que ellas están el día de hoy asoladas; ni hay en ellas morador;

3 a causa de la maldad de ellos que cometieron, haciéndome enojar, yendo a ofrecer sahumerios, honrando dioses ajenos que ellos no habían conocido, vosotros, ni vuestros padres.

4 Y envié a vosotros a todos mis siervos los profetas, madrugando y enviándolos, diciendo: No hagáis ahora esta cosa abominable que <I>yo</I> aborrezco.

5 Mas no oyeron ni inclinaron su oído para convertirse de su maldad, para no ofrecer sahumerios a dioses ajenos.

6 Se derramó, por tanto, mi saña y mi furor, y se encendió en las ciudades de Judá y en las plazas de Jerusalén, y se tornaron en soledad y en destrucción, como hoy.

7 Ahora, pues, así dijo el SEÑOR de los ejércitos, Dios de Israel: ¿Por qué hacéis tan grande mal contra vuestras almas, para ser talados varón y mujer, niño y mamante, de en medio de Judá, ¿para qué no os desáis remanente?

8 Haciéndome enojar por las obras de vuestras manos, ofreciendo sahumerios a dioses ajenos en la tierra de Egipto, adonde habéis entrado para morar, ¿para qué os acabéis, y seáis por maldición y por oprobio a todos los gentiles de la tierra?

9 ¿Os habéis olvidado de las maldades de vuestros padres, y de las maldades de los reyes de Judá, y de las maldades de sus mujeres, y de vuestras maldades propias, y de las maldades de vuestras mujeres, que hicieron en tierra de Judá y en las plazas de Jerusalén?

10 No se han quebrantado hasta el día de hoy, ni han tenido temor, ni han caminado en mi ley, ni en mis derechos que puse delante de vosotros y delante de vuestros padres.

11 Por tanto, así dijo el SEÑOR de los ejércitos, Dios de Israel: He aquí que yo pongo mi rostro en vosotros para mal, y para acabar a todo Judá.

12 Y tomaré el remanente de Judá que pusieron sus rostros para entrar en tierra de Egipto para morar allí, y todos serán consumidos en tierra de Egipto; caerán a cuchillo, serán consumidos de hambre; a cuchillo y hambre morirán desde el más pequeño hasta el mayor; y serán por juramento, y por espanto, y por maldición, y por oprobio.

13 Y visitaré a los que moran en tierra de Egipto, como visité a Jerusalén, con cuchillo, y con hambre, y con pestilencia.

14 Y del remanente de Judá que entraron en tierra de Egipto para morar allí, no habrá quien escape, ni quien quede vivo, para volver a la tierra de Judá, por la cual suspiran ellos por volver para habitar allí; porque no volverán sino algunos fugitivos.

15 Entonces todos los que sabían que sus mujeres habían ofrecido sahumerios a dioses ajenos, y todas las mujeres que estaban presentes, una gran concurrencia, y todo el pueblo que habitaba en tierra de Egipto, en Patros, respondieron a Jeremías, diciendo:

16 La palabra que nos has hablado en nombre del SEÑOR, no oímos de ti;

17 antes pondremos ciertamente por obra toda palabra que ha salido de nuestra boca, para ofrecer sahumerios a la reina del cielo, y derramándole libaciones, como hemos hecho nosotros y nuestros padres, nuestros reyes y nuestros príncipes, en las ciudades de Judá y en las plazas de Jerusalén, y fuimos llenos de pan, y estuvimos alegres, y nunca vimos mal.

18 Mas desde que cesamos de ofrecer sahumerios a la reina del cielo, y de derramarle libaciones, nos falta todo, y a cuchillo y a hambre somos consumidos.

19 Y cuando nosotras ofrecimos sahumerios a la reina del cielo, y le derramamos libaciones, ¿Por ventura le hicimos tortas para tributarle culto, y le derramamos libaciones, sin nuestros maridos?

20 Y habló Jeremías a todo el pueblo, a los hombres y a las mujeres, y a todo el vulgo que le había respondido esto, diciendo:

21 ¿Por ventura no se ha acordado el SEÑOR, y no ha venido a su memoria el sahumerio que ofrecisteis en las ciudades de Judá, y en las plazas de Jerusalén, vosotros y vuestros padres, vuestros reyes y vuestros príncipes, y el pueblo de la tierra?

22 Y no pudo sufrir más el SEÑOR a causa de la maldad de vuestras obras, a causa de las abominaciones que habíais hecho; por tanto, vuestra tierra fue en asolamiento, y en espanto, y en maldición, hasta no quedar morador, como <I>sucede</I> hoy.

23 Porque ofrecisteis sahumerios, y pecasteis contra el SEÑOR, y no escuchasteis la voz del SEÑOR, ni anduvisteis en su ley, ni en sus derechos, ni en sus testimonios; por tanto, ha venido sobre vosotros este mal, como <I> sucede</I> hoy.

24 Y dijo Jeremías a todo el pueblo, y a todas las mujeres: Oíd palabra del SEÑOR, todos los de Judá que <I>estáis</I> en tierra de Egipto:

25 Así habló el SEÑOR de los ejércitos, Dios de Israel, diciendo: Vosotros y vuestras mujeres proferisteis con vuestra boca, y con vuestras manos lo ejecutasteis, diciendo: Cumpliremos efectivamente nuestros votos que hicimos, de ofrecer sahumerios a la reina del cielo y de derramarle libaciones; confirmáis a la verdad vuestros votos, y ponéis vuestros votos por obra.

26 Por tanto, oíd palabra del SEÑOR, todo Judá que habitáis en tierra de Egipto: He aquí <I>que yo</I> juré por mi grande Nombre, dijo el SEÑOR, que mi Nombre no será más invocado de ningún varón judío, que diga: Vive el Señor DIOS, en toda la tierra de Egipto.

27 He aquí que yo velo sobre ellos para mal, y no para bien; y todos los varones de Judá que están en tierra de Egipto, serán consumidos a cuchillo y a hambre, hasta que sean consumidos.

28 Y los que escaparen del cuchillo, volverán de tierra de Egipto a tierra de Judá, pocos hombres; para que sepa todo el remanente de Judá, que han entrado en Egipto para morar allí, la palabra de quién ha de permanecer, <I> si</I> la mía, o la suya.

29 Y esto tendréis por señal, dice el SEÑOR, de que en este lugar os visito, para que sepáis que de cierto permanecerán mis palabras para mal sobre vosotros.

30 Así dijo el SEÑOR: He aquí que yo entrego a Faraón Hofra rey de Egipto en mano de sus enemigos, y en mano de los que buscan su alma, como entregué a Sedequías rey de Judá en mano de Nabucodonosor rey de Babilonia, su enemigo, y que buscaba su alma.

1 This word came to Jeremiah concerning all the Jews living in Lower Egypt—in Migdol, Tahpanhes and Memphis—and in Upper Egypt:

2 “This is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, says: You saw the great disaster I brought on Jerusalem and on all the towns of Judah. Today they lie deserted and in ruins

3 because of the evil they have done. They aroused my anger by burning incense to and worshiping other gods that neither they nor you nor your ancestors ever knew.

4 Again and again I sent my servants the prophets, who said, ‘Do not do this detestable thing that I hate!’

5 But they did not listen or pay attention; they did not turn from their wickedness or stop burning incense to other gods.

6 Therefore, my fierce anger was poured out; it raged against the towns of Judah and the streets of Jerusalem and made them the desolate ruins they are today.

7 “Now this is what the LORD God Almighty, the God of Israel, says: Why bring such great disaster on yourselves by cutting off from Judah the men and women, the children and infants, and so leave yourselves without a remnant?

8 Why arouse my anger with what your hands have made, burning incense to other gods in Egypt, where you have come to live? You will destroy yourselves and make yourselves a curse and an object of reproach among all the nations on earth.

9 Have you forgotten the wickedness committed by your ancestors and by the kings and queens of Judah and the wickedness committed by you and your wives in the land of Judah and the streets of Jerusalem?

10 To this day they have not humbled themselves or shown reverence, nor have they followed my law and the decrees I set before you and your ancestors.

11 “Therefore this is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, says: I am determined to bring disaster on you and to destroy all Judah.

12 I will take away the remnant of Judah who were determined to go to Egypt to settle there. They will all perish in Egypt; they will fall by the sword or die from famine. From the least to the greatest, they will die by sword or famine. They will become a curse and an object of horror, a curse and an object of reproach.

13 I will punish those who live in Egypt with the sword, famine and plague, as I punished Jerusalem.

14 None of the remnant of Judah who have gone to live in Egypt will escape or survive to return to the land of Judah, to which they long to return and live; none will return except a few fugitives.”

15 Then all the men who knew that their wives were burning incense to other gods, along with all the women who were present—a large assembly—and all the people living in Lower and Upper Egypt, said to Jeremiah,

16 “We will not listen to the message you have spoken to us in the name of the LORD!

17 We will certainly do everything we said we would: We will burn incense to the Queen of Heaven and will pour out drink offerings to her just as we and our ancestors, our kings and our officials did in the towns of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem. At that time we had plenty of food and were well off and suffered no harm.

18 But ever since we stopped burning incense to the Queen of Heaven and pouring out drink offerings to her, we have had nothing and have been perishing by sword and famine.”

19 The women added, “When we burned incense to the Queen of Heaven and poured out drink offerings to her, did not our husbands know that we were making cakes impressed with her image and pouring out drink offerings to her?”

20 Then Jeremiah said to all the people, both men and women, who were answering him,

21 “Did not the LORD remember and call to mind the incense burned in the towns of Judah and the streets of Jerusalem by you and your ancestors, your kings and your officials and the people of the land?

22 When the LORD could no longer endure your wicked actions and the detestable things you did, your land became a curse and a desolate waste without inhabitants, as it is today.

23 Because you have burned incense and have sinned against the LORD and have not obeyed him or followed his law or his decrees or his stipulations, this disaster has come upon you, as you now see.”

24 Then Jeremiah said to all the people, including the women, “Hear the word of the LORD, all you people of Judah in Egypt.

25 This is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, says: You and your wives have done what you said you would do when you promised, ‘We will certainly carry out the vows we made to burn incense and pour out drink offerings to the Queen of Heaven.’ “Go ahead then, do what you promised! Keep your vows!

26 But hear the word of the LORD, all you Jews living in Egypt: ‘I swear by my great name,’ says the LORD, ‘that no one from Judah living anywhere in Egypt will ever again invoke my name or swear, “As surely as the Sovereign LORD lives.”

27 For I am watching over them for harm, not for good; the Jews in Egypt will perish by sword and famine until they are all destroyed.

28 Those who escape the sword and return to the land of Judah from Egypt will be very few. Then the whole remnant of Judah who came to live in Egypt will know whose word will stand—mine or theirs.

29 “ ‘This will be the sign to you that I will punish you in this place,’ declares the LORD, ‘so that you will know that my threats of harm against you will surely stand.’

30 This is what the LORD says: ‘I am going to deliver Pharaoh Hophra king of Egypt into the hands of his enemies who want to kill him, just as I gave Zedekiah king of Judah into the hands of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, the enemy who wanted to kill him.’ ”
