John 13:28-38

NRSA 28 Now no one at the table knew why he said this to him. NIV 28 But no one at the meal understood why Jesus said this to him. NRSA 29 Some thought that, because Judas had the common purse, Jesus was telling him, "Buy what we need for the festival"; or, that he should give something to the poor. NIV 29 Since Judas had charge of the money, some thought Jesus was telling him to buy what was needed for the festival, or to give something to the poor. NRSA 30 So, after receiving the piece of bread, he immediately went out. And it was night. NIV 30 As soon as Judas had taken the bread, he went out. And it was night. NRSA 31 When he had gone out, Jesus said, "Now the Son of Man has been glorified, and God has been glorified in him. NIV 31 When he was gone, Jesus said, “Now the Son of Man is glorified and God is glorified in him. NRSA 32 If God has been glorified in him, God will also glorify him in himself and will glorify him at once. NIV 32 If God is glorified in him,God will glorify the Son in himself, and will glorify him at once. NRSA 33 Little children, I am with you only a little longer. You will look for me; and as I said to the Jews so now I say to you, "Where I am going, you cannot come.' NIV 33 “My children, I will be with you only a little longer. You will look for me, and just as I told the Jews, so I tell you now: Where I am going, you cannot come. NRSA 34 I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. NIV 34 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. NRSA 35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another." NIV 35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” NRSA 36 Simon Peter said to him, "Lord, where are you going?" Jesus answered, "Where I am going, you cannot follow me now; but you will follow afterward." NIV 36 Simon Peter asked him, “Lord, where are you going?” Jesus replied, “Where I am going, you cannot follow now, but you will follow later.” NRSA 37 Peter said to him, "Lord, why can I not follow you now? I will lay down my life for you." NIV 37 Peter asked, “Lord, why can’t I follow you now? I will lay down my life for you.” NRSA 38 Jesus answered, "Will you lay down your life for me? Very truly, I tell you, before the cock crows, you will have denied me three times. NIV 38 Then Jesus answered, “Will you really lay down your life for me? Very truly I tell you, before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times!
