CEB 26 When Elizabeth was six months pregnant, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a city in Galilee, NIV 26 In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, CEB 27 to a virgin who was engaged to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David's house. NIV 30 But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. CEB 31 Look! You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus. NIV 31 You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. CEB 32 He will be great and he will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of David his father. NIV 32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, CEB 33 He will rule over Jacob's house forever, and there will be no end to his kingdom." NIV 33 and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.” CEB 34 Then Mary said to the angel, "How will this happen since I haven't had sexual relations with a man?" NIV 34 “How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?” CEB 35 The angel replied, "The Holy Spirit will come over you and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Therefore, the one who is to be born will be holy. He will be called God's Son. NIV 35 The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God. CEB 36 Look, even in her old age, your relative Elizabeth has conceived a son. This woman who was labeled ‘unable to conceive' is now six months pregnant. NIV 36 Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be unable to conceive is in her sixth month. CEB 37 Nothing is impossible for God." NIV 37 For no word from God will ever fail.” CEB 38 Then Mary said, "I am the Lord's servant. Let it be with me just as you have said." Then the angel left her. NIV 38 “I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” Then the angel left her. CEB 39 Mary got up and hurried to a city in the Judean highlands. NIV 39 At that time Mary got ready and hurried to a town in the hill country of Judea, CEB 40 She entered Zechariah's home and greeted Elizabeth. NIV 40 where she entered Zechariah’s home and greeted Elizabeth. CEB 41 When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, the child leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. CEB 42 With a loud voice she blurted out, "God has blessed you above all women, and he has blessed the child you carry. NIV 42 In a loud voice she exclaimed: “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child you will bear! CEB 43 Why do I have this honor, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? NIV 43 But why am I so favored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? CEB 44 As soon as I heard your greeting, the baby in my womb jumped for joy. NIV 44 As soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy. CEB 45 Happy is she who believed that the Lord would fulfill the promises he made to her." NIV 45 Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill his promises to her!”
