Luke 5:1-11

CEB 1 One day Jesus was standing beside Lake Gennesaret when the crowd pressed in around him to hear God's word. NRS 1 Once while Jesus was standing beside the lake of Gennesaret, and the crowd was pressing in on him to hear the word of God, CEB 2 Jesus saw two boats sitting by the lake. The fishermen had gone ashore and were washing their nets. NRS 2 he saw two boats there at the shore of the lake; the fishermen had gone out of them and were washing their nets. CEB 3 Jesus boarded one of the boats, the one that belonged to Simon, then asked him to row out a little distance from the shore. Jesus sat down and taught the crowds from the boat. NRS 3 He got into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon, and asked him to put out a little way from the shore. Then he sat down and taught the crowds from the boat. CEB 4 When he finished speaking to the crowds, he said to Simon, "Row out farther, into the deep water, and drop your nets for a catch." NRS 4 When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, "Put out into the deep water and let down your nets for a catch." CEB 5 Simon replied, "Master, we've worked hard all night and caught nothing. But because you say so, I'll drop the nets." NRS 5 Simon answered, "Master, we have worked all night long but have caught nothing. Yet if you say so, I will let down the nets." CEB 6 So they dropped the nets and their catch was so huge that their nets were splitting. NRS 6 When they had done this, they caught so many fish that their nets were beginning to break. CEB 7 They signaled for their partners in the other boat to come and help them. They filled both boats so full that they were about to sink. NRS 7 So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both boats, so that they began to sink. CEB 8 When Simon Peter saw the catch, he fell at Jesus' knees and said, "Leave me, Lord, for I'm a sinner!" NRS 8 But when Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, "Go away from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man!" CEB 9 Peter and those with him were overcome with amazement because of the number of fish they caught. NRS 9 For he and all who were with him were amazed at the catch of fish that they had taken; CEB 10 James and John, Zebedee's sons, were Simon's partners and they were amazed too. Jesus said to Simon, "Don't be afraid. From now on, you will be fishing for people." NRS 10 and so also were James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. Then Jesus said to Simon, "Do not be afraid; from now on you will be catching people." CEB 11 As soon as they brought the boats to the shore, they left everything and followed Jesus. NRS 11 When they had brought their boats to shore, they left everything and followed him.
