Luke 7:26-36

NCV 26 But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, and I tell you, John is more than a prophet. NIV 26 But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet. NCV 27 This was written about him: 'I will send my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare the way for you.' NIV 27 This is the one about whom it is written: “ ‘I will send my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way before you.’ NCV 28 I tell you, John is greater than any other person ever born, but even the least important person in the kingdom of God is greater than John." NIV 28 I tell you, among those born of women there is no one greater than John; yet the one who is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.” NCV 29 (When the people, including the tax collectors, heard this, they all agreed that God's teaching was good, because they had been baptized by John. NCV 30 But the Pharisees and experts on the law refused to accept God's plan for themselves; they did not let John baptize them.) NCV 32 They are like children sitting in the marketplace, calling to one another and saying, 'We played music for you, but you did not dance; we sang a sad song, but you did not cry.' NIV 32 They are like children sitting in the marketplace and calling out to each other: “ ‘We played the pipe for you, and you did not dance; we sang a dirge, and you did not cry.’ NCV 33 John the Baptist came and did not eat bread or drink wine, and you say, 'He has a demon in him.' NIV 33 For John the Baptist came neither eating bread nor drinking wine, and you say, ‘He has a demon.’ NCV 34 The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and you say, 'Look at him! He eats too much and drinks too much wine, and he is a friend of tax collectors and sinners!' NIV 34 The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and you say, ‘Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’ NCV 35 But wisdom is proved to be right by what it does." NIV 35 But wisdom is proved right by all her children.” NCV 36 One of the Pharisees asked Jesus to eat with him, so Jesus went into the Pharisee's house and sat at the table. NIV 36 When one of the Pharisees invited Jesus to have dinner with him, he went to the Pharisee’s house and reclined at the table.
