Mark 8:31-38

GNT 31 Then Jesus began to teach his disciples: "The Son of Man must suffer much and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the teachers of the Law. He will be put to death, but three days later he will rise to life." NIV 31 He then began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and after three days rise again. GNT 32 He made this very clear to them. So Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. NIV 32 He spoke plainly about this, and Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. GNT 33 But Jesus turned around, looked at his disciples, and rebuked Peter. "Get away from me, Satan," he said. "Your thoughts don't come from God but from human nature!" NIV 33 But when Jesus turned and looked at his disciples, he rebuked Peter. “Get behind me, Satan!” he said. “You do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.” GNT 34 Then Jesus called the crowd and his disciples to him. "If any of you want to come with me," he told them, "you must forget yourself, carry your cross, and follow me. NIV 34 Then he called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. GNT 35 For if you want to save your own life, you will lose it; but if you lose your life for me and for the gospel, you will save it. NIV 35 For whoever wants to save their lifewill lose it, but whoever loses their life for me and for the gospel will save it. GNT 36 Do you gain anything if you win the whole world but lose your life? Of course not! NIV 36 What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? GNT 37 There is nothing you can give to regain your life. NIV 37 Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul? GNT 38 If you are ashamed of me and of my teaching in this godless and wicked day, then the Son of Man will be ashamed of you when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels." NIV 38 If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of them when he comes in his Father’s glory with the holy angels.”
